BRIEFLY, and just to let you know a little bit about who "The Westies" are and where they live:
The Royal Westminster Regiment traces its roots back to the creation of the New Westminster Rifles (No. 1 Co.) in 1863. The Rifles was the first Militia unit formed in the then colony of British Columbia.
The Regiment has been known by various names (stop sniggering - we mean officially) over the years, but has occupied the same, (temporary) building since 1894.
The Regiment carries forward the heritage of The Royal Engineers, the Artillery (both Field Artillery and Heavy Artillery), and with a daughter regiment that is (dare we say it in polite company) Armoured, The Royal Westminster Regiment is one of the few Infantry Regiments that combines the history of all four combat arms in its regimental traditions.
BUT, The Westies are not just about the past. The Regiment was rated (1998/99and 1999/2000 rating years) the best Reserve Infantry Regiment in Canada. The Regiment was rated (1998/99 and 1999/2000 rating years) the best unit (no differentiation as to unit type - we were simply the best) in Land Forces Western Area. The fact that The Regiment is the chronic winner of the Wallace Efficiency Trophy passes almost as an afterthought.
An active and hard training Infantry Regiment, The Royal Westminster Regiment is always looking for people who have the ability to come up to the Westie standard, and the willingness to work harder than anyone elso so that they can be the best.
