Canada is proud of its heritage. From the early days of the North-West Mounted Police -- the Mounties -- to today's technological society, we have it all. American author James Oliver Curwood called Canada "God's Country" and used that phrase in several of his novels. Bob and Doug, the Mackenzie Brothers, called us "The Great White North." Whether THE GREAT NORTHWOODS of sled dogs and eternal snows -- which still exists -- or the modern, clean, crime-free streets of today's cities -- Canada has become the Place to escape to!

COMEDY is sacred to Canadians. MACK SENNET, born in Eastern Canada, was Hollywood's first King of Comedy -- he created the Keystone Cops (His American business partners said, "You can't make fun of policemen!" but he did anyway.) -- Slapstick comedy -- built the HOLLYWOOD sign on a mountain he owned -- discovered Charlie Chaplin and many others. Modern times have seen Rich Little, SCTV, Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas, John Candy, Martin Short, Saturday Night Live's Lorne Michaels, Dan Aykroyd, Jim Carrey and Mike Myers. The Royal Canadian Air Farce is a Canadian institution.

:-) You had to be tough back in the days of the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890's! The Mounties kept the peace at the gold creeks and on the streets of Whitehorse and Dawson City. But whiskey and wild, wild women made the saloons of those boom towns popular places for nighttime revelry.
A newcomer to the Yukon happened into one Dawson City ginmill, glanced around the room, and asked the bartender, "Why have you got sawdust spread all over the floor?"
"That isn't sawdust," the bartender replied. "That's yesterday's furniture."
:-) A young boy looked up at a red-coated Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman astride a black stallion.
"Why don't you ride in a police car?" the lad asked.
"I would," the Mountie explained, "But there's no room for my horse."
:-) Ken Dryden, Stanley Cup-winning star goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens Hockey Club, threw a big after-season banquet. In addition to friends and fellow players, his father and his little boy were also in attendance. When the priest got up to deliver the invocation, he solemly prayed:
"Thank you, Lord, for what we are about to eat. In the name of the father, the son, and the goalie host."
