ROBOT: SCORCH

this is scorch

scorch is built on an old tyco scorcher. it uses sonar and IR ranging. the motor board is a lynxmotion board. the controller is an oopic.
the sonar provides a means of speed control as well as object detection. The IR rangers are used for wall hugging behavior. scorch is an incredibly fast robot when in an open area. i built this robot with no plans exept the ones in my head. i like designing the project as im going. scorch has been in the makes now for about 6 months and has run up a bill of about 200 dollars so far.

you can see the electronics here. the motor board requires 4 PWM signals to fully control the motors. The oopic only provides 2 PWM lines. i fixed this problem by hooking up each of the oopics PWM lines to 2 inputs of a quad nor gate.
the free lines are used as control lines to govern which nor gate the PWM passes through. the 4 outputs of the nors feed the PWM inputs on the lynxmotion motor driver board. the rest of the electronics here are fit tightly on the robot.
the sonar sits atop a servo that pans left and right. the motors run off of a 9.6V tyco battery pack. the sonar runs off of 4 AA batteries. The servo uses a 9V battery. The OOPIC uses a 9V battery.
