1 - BIRTHDAY GREETINGS FROM FORMER PRESIDENT GEORGE H. W. BUSH TO ROBERT N. CRONK. (Received 12-3-2003)
_____________________________________________________________________
The following letter from the Former President of the United States, the Honorable George H. W. Bush, addressed to Robert N. Cronk, was received on December 3, 2003, even though Robert's birthday was not until January 1, 2004.
Mr. George H. W. Bush was born on June 12, 1924, and this letter was apparently sent to Robert because of his being the first person born in the United States in the former President's birthyear.
This letter was completely unsolicited, and came as a great surprise to Robert and his family. It was signed by the former President.

4 - NEWSPAPER ARTICLE IN SAVANNAH PRESS (Afternoon Newspaper) IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA, ON JANUARY 1, 1924
_____________________________________________________________________
The following article appeared in the Savannah Press in Savannah, Georgia, on January 1, 1924, on page 10, announcing the birth of the first baby born in Savannah in the year 1924.
This account of the birth of Robert N. Cronk is contained in the archives of the Savannah Public Library (on Bull Street) in microfilm form.
(There is a great difference is the way articles were written then, and the way they are written today.)

FIRST 1924 BABY
BORN AT 12:00:05
_______
"Young Master 1924" himself, in
person! Probably the first baby
born in Savannah in 1924 was born
to Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Cronk of 2111
West Broad street at five seconds
after midnight this morning at St.
Joseph's Hospital.
Old Joe Stork had a close race
with Father Time and beat the old
guy with the long whiskers and
hour glass by exactly five seconds.
Thus it was made a very happy
New Year , indeed, for Mr. and Mrs.
Cronk.
Mrs. Cronk was Miss Gertrude
McDonald before her marriage.
_____________________________________________________________________
Apparently this report was given over the telephone, because Mrs. Cronk's maiden name was "MacDONELL", not "McDonald".
