World class surf board shaper, Bob Ricard, is a designated authorized journeyman, by Dick Brewer in 1977. He has continued refining surf board designs in the Hawaiian Islands for the past 27 years.Bob has moved back to Florida and is setting up a shaping room for east coast orders in Indialantic. He will be traveling to Hawaii and Puerto Rico to refine the latest board deigns.
Bob first started surfing at age 13 at Sunset bch, Florida then moveing to North Miami,from where he traveled to Puerto Rico during high school.
He then moved to Kauai in 1973 ,where he hooked up with some local surfers riding Brewer,s one local named Glen K. said here kid try this out at the Bay ." After that I was a Beliver in the Majic surfboard" , at least back then Brewers foil were know as the fastest boards around. Bob was teamed up with freinds Adam 12,Mike Hickman,The Tick,and Rick{Fish} surfing the island for a year .Afer surfing some great waves the crew moved to the North Shore, surfing the best for many years including many 20 + days, riding Brewer's and Owl Chapman's boards exclusively. He began to shape with Owl Chapman and completed an apprenticeship with Dick Brewer in 1977. Sunset beach was the testing ground and the place to be ."When we surfed back then it was, make it count, its along swim in .Surfing Sunset and Waiamea Bay anytime it broke it was this one time in November 1974 "One thrity foot day at Waiamea Bay changed my life ".Dr. Rick Greg was calling thrity foot sets there were only eight of us for about ahour ,Adam 12 well'll tell ya.
Bob began traveling to Florida to shape boards, were he shaped boards for many hot surfers Dick Catri, Mike Tabling,Jeff Crawford,Buddy Pelletier,and many ohters.
Bob moved to the Big Island of Hawaii in 1981 and has been building boards there and are available through Orichdland Surf Shop in Hilo,Hi.96720. He has been travling to Florida for the past four summers shaping Country Surfboards Haleiwa at Spectrum Surf Shop in Indialantic,FL. 32903.
Bob just returned from two mounths in Puerto Rico Where he Shaped at Surfboards Puerto Rico and caught some good waves with Jeff Yost inclueding some Tress Palms,Check out his shapes at the Vista Resort in Rincon.
Bob will be in Hawaii For the next month and will be back on the east coast at the end of April. Back from the islands I,ll be shaping boards to be delivered this summer, Aloha.
