Definition of the name Garnier: (1) Keeper of the grainery. From the Old French "gerner or gernier," meaning storehouse for
corn. (2) A variation of the French surname Varner and German surnames Warner and Werner, from the Germanic elements
"warin" meaning guard and "heri" meaning army.
Constant's headstone.
Constant Garnier was my great great grandfather. He was born abt 30 Mar 1817 in Avaranches, Normandy. He came to Ile Rouge
(Red Island), Bay St. George about 1837. He married Marie Laetitia Christe, from Cape Breton and settled on Sandy Point,
Bay St. George. Records show Garnier living on Sandy Point (Flat Island) in 1838. He became a naturalized British subject in 1881.
