"Eating Brains Makes The Pain Go Away"
Oh yeah! This is my favorite zombie flick of all time-"Return Of The Living Dead"is a true classic.Released in 1985 ,and directed and scripted by Dan O'Bannon(author of "Alien")"RotLD"stands out amongst other zombie films for it's great characters, fast paced action and most importantly by it's humor. The characters behave exactly how people would react if they were suddenly swarmed upon by the resurrected dead screaming for thier BRAINS!I love this movie! It was a favorite at our T.V.Parties in the late 80's,we'd watch it almost every night.Every character in this film is likeable, the special effects are great and it also has a killer soundtrack featuring such greats as The Cramps,TSOL,The Damned and my favorite "Party Time"by 45 Grave.Even the zombies stand out from other walking corpse flicks-they're clever and they talk(OK,so maybe thier vocabilary is limited but what do you expect from a dead thing with nothing but brains on the brain?).Such a great cast, great dialogue, and a great ending too!Hopefully it'll be re-released on dvd in the future,I'd love to hear commentary from the cast-"Return Of The Living Dead" rocks!
In 1987 they spawned a sequel, with some returning cast members as new characters, but it just didn't work like the first one did.It tried too hard, reusing dialogue from the first one,but it just didn't capture the fun and frenzy of the first one.
But they made up for it with "Return Of The Living Dead Pt.3"by going in a different direction but still referencing the first one.One of horrordoms greatest Living Dead Girls is featured in this film played by Mindy Clark who has become kind of a horror movie cult figure with her numerous body piercings and sexy cries of "I'm so hungry!",Part 3 isn't as funny as the first one,but it does stand out on it's own as a cool zombie flick.
So grab a coke,a bowl of brains and get ahold of Part 1 and Part 3,sit down in front of the telly and get ready for fun!Makes me hungry just thinkin' of 'em!

THE DONNAS TURN 21!!!
Growing up as a teenager in the 70's was a pretty wierd time for me.It seemed like I was the only kid in town that listened to glam rock(or at least admitted to it)and I was always in search of others that could appreciate the simple yet energetic sounds of such bands as The Runaways,Starz,KISS,Angel and Alice Cooper. But I had no luck, everyone was into Lynyrd Skynrd,Bob Segar or Peter Frampton. What's the deal?I thought, how did these bands keep popping up in the magazines and in the charts if I was the only one into them?So perplexed was I.
I remember sittin' at home on a Saturday night watching the Sha-Na-Na show when out came a band with such a monsterous guitar sound that so imbedded itself into my brain that I never forgot that moment. That band was The Ramones and suddenly there was a whole new world in rock music that I wasn't aware of-the punk scene.
The rock n' roll music of the 70's was pretty exciting, and I seemed to be the only one aware of it.
These bands spoke directly to the teenager inside of me,rebelling just for the sake of it,playing music loud cuz that's the way it's meant to be,being an outcast,a flaming youth, alone in his un-rock n' roll highschool!
Lo n' behold,as soon as I slapped on the new Donnas cd I was sucked back into the 70's and felt like that teenager again. While all the other kids crank out thier Eminem and Linkin Park cd's,I'm struttin' down the street with my leather jacket emersed in the VERY LOUD GUITARS of THE DONNAS!!If only I didn't already smoke,I would've gone out and bought my first pack of cigarettes. That's how rock n' roll this album is-and it's played by 4 chicks barely 21 years old!!!!There is hope for the future!!!
Great teen anthems that sound like AC/DC mixed with The Ramones played by Ace Frehley(in his classic 70's style).,Turn 21 is just an amazingly great album.Check out the lyrics to "Drivin thru my heart"-I Need A Doctor/Kinda Sorta/What's Wrong With Me/He Said Thier's A Skidmark On My Aorta/And There's No Remedy!--Oh Yeah! They also do a killer version of Judas Priests'"Living After Midnight",and ya gotta check out "40 Boys In 40 Nights"and "Midnight Snack"
The Donnas have released the Eternal Teenager that was buried deep inside of me by the 90's grunge bands. They've captured that 70's feeling better than any TV miniseries ever could. The Donnas should have called this album "The Donnas Save Rock N' Roll".They surely have!
-Now if only I can find a girl like The Donnas-I could die a happy man!
