Ezekiel is the prophet to whom Qumran owes the most. This ensured it was the focus of another social engineering operation 500 years later. The scrolls made public give tantalising insights into this and earlier operations...

33,36 4Q534-6... For the wise - lights will be revealed ...they will teach everything...
Wise ones, including Noah, are taught by lights which are revealed to them. They are then able to make heavenly ascents or journeys:
136,40 4Q213-14 Levi describes one heavenly voyage..’in the vision of visions I saw Heaven opened and I saw the mountain beneath me, as high as to reach to Heaven and I was on it. Then were opened to me the gates of Heaven’...
59-64 4q385-389 ‘Second Ezekiel’. The text describes: a radiance of a chariot...4 living creatures... each was walking upon two legs...their faces were joined to the other...their shape of the faces one each was of a lion/eagle/calf/man. Each one had the hand of a man joined from the backs of the living creatures and attached to their wings...wheel joined to wheel as they went, and from the 2 sides of the wheels were streams of fire and in the midst of the coals were living creatures, like coals of fire, [ torches, as it were, in the midst of]the wheels & the living creatures.
The return of the ‘beings’, this time to the Qumran camp, explains the meteoric rise, development of and reverie in the mysticism of the Throne/ Divine Chariot...
222-30 4Q286-7 The beautiful and emotive scrolls, called ‘The Chariots of Glory’, form a cornerstone of Kabbalah/ Merkabah mysticism. The latter is based on Ezekiel’s visions of craft/glories. We hear of:
Wheel-angels, fires of lights and miraculous brilliances and the highness of the beauty of the fountain. ...their Glory, the doors of their wonders...the Angels of fire and the Spirits of cloud...the embroidered splendour of the Spirits of the Holy of Holies...
Similarly, scrolls 4Q SL 39 & 40, 24 made public in the fifties, state... And when the wheels turn, angels of holiness come and go between. His glorious wheels like visions of fire. Spirits of supreme holiness surround them, visions of streams of fire [see Dan 7:10 & Ez] and shining creatures clothed in glorious brocades, many-coloured marvellous garments, more brilliant than pure salt, spirits of the living [G]od unceasingly accompany the glory of the marvellous chariots [note the plural!]. And the sound of the wind of blessing is mingled with the tumult of their marching, and they praise Holiness while they return on their steps. When they rise, they rise marvellously; and when they alight and are still, the sound of joyous shouting ceases in all the camp of God and also the wind of divine blessing,...[ref Essene Writings from Qumran [A Dupont-Jommen, trans G Vermes] 1961 pp332-35]
39,40,44,46 4Q554 Ezekiel’s 13 x 8 mile City, guarded by over 1,432 100’ towers’, is built of electrum, sapphire & chalcedony with laths of gold and paved with white stone. The City is surrounded by a wall with 12 gates, 1 for each tribe.
ANGELS, ETERNAL WATCHERS/ Nephilim
6,11,206, 209,272 4Q 274,477 [+ earlier ‘War Scroll’[7:3-6], ‘Damascus’ Document CD15] inform us that in this time of yet another social crisis:
The Qumran messianic elite inhabited desert camps. These camps were prepared so that the sect could be joined by angels who were expected to take part in a holy war against all evil. The ‘angels’ who were in the camp spoke Aramaic [Jesus’ language].
96-7 4Q227 These angels were the instructors of Enoch, another Heavenly traveller ... we instructed him 6 Jubilees of years... he wrote down a description of all the heavens and the paths of heavenly bodies. [Enoch witnessed against the Watchers].
177 4Q525 The serpent who made every generation tremble died... [He]{Mastemoth, the Devil} stationed an angel around... a Watcher and God.
95 4Q532 The Watchers are fallen angels who bred with human women [= no alien women?].
151-6 4Q 543 545-548 I [Amram] saw Watchers in my vision, the dream-vision. Two..were fighting.. a great contest over me. I asked them, ‘Who are you, that you are thus empowered over me?’ They answered me, ‘We have been empowered and rule over all mankind’. They said to me, ‘Which of us [LIGHT OR DARK ONE] do you choose to rule you? I raised my eyes and looked. One of them was terrifying in his appearance, like a serpent, his cloak many-coloured yet very dark...And I looked again and his appearance, his visage like a viper, and wearing...exceedingly, and all his eyes...[presumably, the serpent like being is the dark watcher.]
4Q252, 319 -25, 559 Time, Alignments, Rotations [important in relation Frequent Catastrophism]
As in Ezekiel and the Exile time, the perceived threat of, or partial return to, the celestial upheavals of the Exodus results in urgent attempts to consolidate a regular calendar:
79, 92, 107-9 As in the Exodus operation, Qumran [with encouragement?] developed a linear as opposed to cyclical calendar. This linear chronology locates the present in a flow of time toward the Messianic era. Within this linear calendar, Qumran followed an order of monthly courses originally determined by lot . These were upheld by a 6 year rotation of the priestly courses [Mishmarot] incorporated into a 119 year sex-annual cycle.
128 The New Year begins with the Vernal Equinox. In years 1 & 4 of the 6 year cycle of priestly locations, the sun & moon are perfectly aligned at the start of the new year [the Vernal Equinox coincides with the new moon].
Related to this alignment, the Gate of Levi is in the position of greatest honour in the centre of the Holy Cities’ eastern wall...directly in line with the sacrificial altar and the entrance to the Temple [see Ez 8:16-18, 10:12, 43:1-5,44:1].
CULTURAL ACHIEVEMENTS
The beings again successfully influence the historical development of civilisation. In particular, the origins/development of Christianity and Judaism are directly related to the influence of Ezekiel mediated by Qumran.
