SOUTHWEST CHAPTER- THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD

UPDATE OF EVENTS:
The first gathering and rites of initiation took place on August 26, 2001. Attending were 29 adults and 25 children. We live in the Southern part of Louisiana with "huge" live oak tree mounds called "Berms". We planned our ceremony around "the sacred Indian Mounds", under the live oaks. We were brave enough to fight the huge monster mosquitoes, and held a candle lighting ceremony, while dancing around a bon fire, playing home made instruments,( some filled with red beans & rice). The adults were treated to home made wine and home made beer, the Petite's had punch and plenty of cola. We made glorious memories and shared some wonderful quite time by passing out prepared "words of wisdom" to our next generation. In Rebecca Wells book, "The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood", she wrote about Louisiana heritage and sisterhood. It is now becoming a movie staring Sandra Bullock. We- the YA-YA's have always known the true secrets of being a Ya-ya.
