NORTH SHORE HOOPS TRAVELING BASKETBALL
North Shore Hoops is Evanston's AAU basketball program providing basketball competition at it's highest level. We are a traveling team with most of our games played in the NAYS Spring Tournaments in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky and Indiana.
The purpose of the program is to provide continuity for those players whose seasons have ended and they need an outlet to polish their skills and, stay focused in the classroom. The program also offers a 2nd chance opportunity for those who have struggled socially or academically and were unable to play for their school team. We are not-for-profit.
Our season lasts seven weeks in which we spend time traveling from state to state to participate in different basketball tournaments. Our players are able to meet and interact with players of diverse cultural, ethnical and region specific backgrounds.Players are asked to commit 4+ hours per week for practice and 2+ hours per week of study table. During the actual season, they must maintain a passing grade in their core curriculum classes and they must not have any outstanding conduct or behavioral issues at practice, games, school and most importantly, at home.
Our mission is to provide an opportunity for our area youth to participate in a meaningful program that provides mentoring, counseling and academic support while improving their basketball skills.
The goal for this program is to show our student/athletes that they matter and that they too can be successful members of our society.
With that in mind, we place an emphasis on college preparation including taking the ACT/SAT, filling out college applications and, how to secure financial aid/assistance for college. We also provide them with exposure to some major tournaments that attract NCAA and NAIA Division I,II,III programs as well as Junior College programs from throughout the United States and particularly, the Midwest.
We primarily field two teams: 9th & 10th grade boys (Junior Varsity) and 11th & 12th grade boys (Varsity). We practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Haven Middle School located on Lincoln and Prairie in Evanston beginning March 3, 2009. Practice is from 7:00pm until 9:00pm.
