Server , maps, beryllium, pointrelease info etc...

What's up, here you'll find some useful tips if you don't find what you are looking for i suggest you email {CQA}pred@tor at cisneros_antonio@hotmail.com and he will get back to you as soon as he can, or for faster reply add his address to your msn messenger if you don't have one we suggest you get one. Thank you and we hope we were useful .

******Maps (Arenas)******:
-to play the custom maps on our servers you must have them inorder to connect, to find these maps go to www.fileplanet.com and get them there , but first you have to create an account inorder to download but that's easy, after you complete making an account in fileplanet. In the search box type in "q3 maps" of course don't add the quotes""" after this you'll have to browse through the pages of files our servers has all the maps here, or type this in your address box to bring you straight there "http://www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?section=0&search=q3+maps&submit.x=23&submit.y=8" or click on the link at the end of the page, some files don't work so don't worry if the files are missing from the site or files are corrupted , an example after clicking on a map and clicking on download, the page will change on this page scroll down and click on the download link usally you'll have to wait cause of high demands in maps etc...later in the site i'll show you how to install the maps.

******Skins(characters)******:
-having new skins are nice to have cause it enhances the Quake III arena experience dramatically depending on the skins you choose, on {CQA} servers we try to keep up with all the new skins for example our server has skins like " Laura Croft, Gumby, Super Mario, Luigi, Wario, Taz, and so much. To get the new skins either click on the link privided or type it in your self
"http://www.planetquake.com/quake3/features/mdlotw/"
and at
of course type it in without the quotes "" lol. Again later in the page I'll show you how to install these items.

******Weapons******:
-again on our servers we have custom weapons which helps improve aim, it's optional to use, on our servers we prohibit auto aim, etc.. to get weapon skins like flamethrower new bfg's ,rocketlauncher etc... to get these new skins visit " http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/q3weapons/q3weapons-index.shtml " Again I'll let u know how to install the files later in the page.

******Pointreleases******Beryllium*******
-to create arenas like Hook & Rail and others you would need is the 1.16n pointrelease and combined with the 1.17 beryllium as you know these files are almost impossible to find now cause almost all the 1.16n pointreleases and the 1.17 beryllium are corrupted if you want these files email me at cisneros_antonio@hotmail.com or add me to msn messenger if your in a hurry get the server up and running, using other pointreleases higher that 1.16n the protocol changes meaning that you will no longer be able to play on {CQA} servers and others , the protocol is how the computer comunicates in easier terms if all 1.11 and 1.16n versions of quake 3 are on channel 3 and if you install example 1.17 and the channel changes so meaning you will not see the lower versions pointrelease. The protocol for 1.11 and 1.16n is 43 , the higher the pointrelease the protocol changes for more info on this visit "planetquake"

-if you managed to get or have 1.16n pointrelease and installed it and want to install the beryllium than this is for you:
*install the beryllium in the main quake III arena folder so the structure should look something like this C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\beryllium . The beryllium files must be in a folder called Beryllium. To create a cfg (a modified arena ie H & R , you should visit the link on the bottom of my site for beryllium cfg's , in that site click on generate cfg , that makes the cfg for you duh!! lol anyways you can add and remove any item here add hook change respawn times speed and so much more , after you generate the cfg save the page , then when you find it where you saved it just rename the file to what ever you like , like for example H&R.cfg make sure the cfg is at the end ok, now to use this file you would have to create a .BAT file. To execute your H&R.cfg arena or what ever you like to call it the way i have mine running is i have it running off the excessive bat so if you get the excessive arena files it would be alot easier for you to get the excessive files go to fileplanet to get them make sure it's NOT the excessive_server 003, it has to be the excesive_server 002 ,
-ok if your reading this than you got the excessive file, from here add the files to your main Q3 main folder, locate the excessive_server.bat rename the file to excessive_server.txt and press enter until it changes format to txt, from here open the file from here you should see something like quake3 +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game excessive and other things there ok from here add in at the end of all the commands if you want to use a hook and rail arena add this in for a the longest yard arena and if your cfg you created is named H&R.cfg
+set fs_game beryllium +map q3dm17 +exec H&R +exec H&R 1 +map q3dm17
rember there muse be a space after the last command , ok after completeing this just rename back to the original name excessive_server.bat and press enter to change back (just to let you know to always to make a back up of your files in case you mess up oh and to let you know, after you add that command in excessive you won't be able to execute excessive from that .bat only the new cfg you created will run from that, you can rename the new bat to H&R.bat if you want just so you know what server your opening, as for the back-up of the excessive_server.bat you can run excessive from there. To create a new arena just do the same but just create a new cfg and arena you wish to use , if you want to learn more about this and to learn how to create a maplist for map rotation and if your having trouble drop me a line and i'll get back to you as soon as i can.

******INSTALLATION******
-Skins , Maps , Weapons ,

-to install the items above, after you unzip the items will be in .pk3 format, locate where you installed your quake III arena game after finding it open it and in the folder look for a folder called baseq3 open that, that is the folder that all the skins, maps ,weapons go in , so after u unzip the files put them in there and that's it. To use the new skins (Character(s)) just load quake and go in under singleplayer to change your model to what ever new skin you wish to choose, simple eh!!lol! for any other Questions or if your having troubles you know where to reach me. To use the weapons there's nothing you have to do after you insall the files in your baseq3 just load in the arena or game u want to go in and the weapons are changed to the new ones, it's that simple .To install the maps it goes in the same place as the skins, and the weapons in your baseq3 folder. For the maps to use in your own server just remember to write the names of the maps down so you know which map you want to load, you would have to input this command in the server console for example of a map that i have the map is called "q3mexx1" so in the server console command line i would enter "map q3mexx1" without the quotes of course, than the map will changes as soon as you hit enter , to learn more about some of many server commands read the next section.

The Q3A Guide - Basic Console Commands and Cheats
Like the previous games in the Quake series, Quake III contains lots of "console" commands that can perform useful functions not described in the manual. Below are some of the more useful ones, along with instructions on how you can browse the commands yourself.

Remember, many of these commands can cause major changes to Quake III, and depending on your video card, may cause your game to crash. These commands are not supported by id and printed here for amusement purposes only.

Console Basics

First things first: to access the console, press the tilde ("~") key at any time (even from the main menus).

From there, put a "/" in front of any command you want to execute, or Q3 will interpret it as a simple chat message. (There isn't anything more embarrassing that letting people know you were trying to use cheats during a game. :)

In the console, you can use the cursor, 'home' and 'end' keys just like you would in any other text editor, as well as the 'page up' and 'page down' to scroll through pages of text.

Many of these commands can be hard to remember, so you may want to use the handy "autocomplete" feature. If you type in the beginning of a command and hit the TAB key, Q3 will offer up all the commands that start with that series of letters. So, if you forgot what the FOV command was, but remembered it starts with "/cg_", you could type that in, hit TAB, and the console would show you all the commands that start with"/cg_". Useful, no?

Cheats

A few select commands are considered "cheats", and can only be activated under certain conditions. To activate cheats, type:

/sv_cheats 1

from the console. From there, load any map using the /devmap command. For instance:

/devmap q3dm15

will load "Demon Keep" with cheats enabled. You can only use cheats when using the "/devmap" command -- using the standard "/map" command will not allow cheats.

Once you've got cheats enabled, some other useful commands:

/god - "God" mode. You are invincible and cannot be hurt by weapons.
/noclip - "no clip" mode. You can fly through walls and floors, and basically go anywhere you want in the level. (Great for taking screenshots.)

Console Commands

There are a LOT of commands and variable you can play with in Quake III. These only begin to scratch the surface, but are some of the more useful and interesting ones. Keep in mind that some of these can only be used while in "cheat" mode, and other settings may be locked on certain servers, in the interest of keeping al players equal.

If you want to see the complete lists:

/cmdlist - will produce a list of commands
/cvarlist - will produce a list of console variables

You can also output this to a text file by typing

/condump filename.txt

This will output the contents of the console to a text file in the Quake3/baseq3 directory.

/reconnect
Will reconnect you to the last server you were connected to. Useful if Q3 dumps you to the main menu during a map change for no apparent reason.

/bindlist
Will produce a list of all currently bound commands.

/bind
One of the most basic commands, this will "bind", or assign a command to a particular key.
Usage: /bind " "
Example: /bind space "+zoom"

/say
Will produce a chat message onscreen. Used with the /bind command, this is an easy way to set up chat messages.
Example: bind F5 say "ouch! that hurt!"
Do NOT abuse this command. Spamming servers with lots of useless chat is an easy way to get kicked off a server.

/say_team
Allows you to send private messages to your teammates. VERY useful for Capture the Flag matches.
Example: bind I say_team "Defense: Incoming Enemy!"

/messagemode 2
Bind this command to a key to enter "team chat" mode. Anything you type after this command will only be sent to your teammates.

/kill
Will cause you to commit suicide. A handy way to lose a frag.

/callvote [proposed vote]
This command can be used to propose changes on a server, and allow all the players on the server to vote on it. This can be used to change maps, game modes, settings, and even kick players if necessary. To vote on a proposed change, press F1 to vote "yes" and F2 to vote "no".

Examples:
callvote map q3dm9
callvote g_gravity
100 callvote kick sluggo

/quit
Quits the game.

/cg_simpleItems (default: 0)
Will turn all items into 2D sprites. Can help improve performance on slower systems. (0=off, 1=on)

/cg_thirdPerson (0/1; default: 0)
/cg_thirdPersonAngle (0-360; default: 0)
/cg_thirdPersonRange (default: 40)
These three commands will allow you to pl
