Mission: The mission of the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School for Health Professions is to prepare students in grades 9 through 12 for college and the world of work through a challenging and rigorous curriculum.

Welcome Back !!! We are in the 1st Quarter in Mr.Gilbert's U.S. History Class. I would like to formally welcome all my new students, parents and/or guardians, to the most exciting and educational history class in Baltimore City. 1st Quarter starts here...
Tues.Aug.30th: Welcome to my class !!! Parental sheet and brochure coming home tonight for your signature.
Wed.Aug.31st: Complete class introduction and class ice breaker activity? Where am I from?
Thurs.Sept.1st and Fri.Sept.2nd: BCPSS and Dunbar's pre-testing assessment.
Mon.Sept.5th: LABOR DAY...NO SCHOOL.
Tues.Sept.6th: Lesson #1: What is U.S. History? A look at the year to come...
Weds. Sept.7th: geography lesson, day #1 mapping, fill in regionas, states, cities, water bodies, etc.
Thurs.Sept.8th: continuing with geography...Coordinates, states and cities. HW- finish cities and states list from class today.
Fri.Sept.9th: 10th Anniversary of 9/11. A full day of Rememberance.
Mon.Sept. 12th: Declaration of Independence history, interpretations, and ties to today...Our civic rights, voting... HW- study for quiz on Wednesday on 50 states.
Tues..Sept.13th: ELECTION DAY, SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED....GO OUT AND VOTE PARENTS.
Weds.Sept.14th: Constitution activity.
Thurs.Sept.15th: US Citizenship research project research and introduction started in class and finished at home over the next 2 weeks. Due on/before Sept.23rd, no lateness.
Fri.Sept.16th: "Civil War in a day..." Everything you need to know about the war in 55 minutes. 1 chart will be graded.
Mon.Sept.19th: Lincoln Presidency/Reconstruction. 2 worksheets will be handed out and graded today.
Tues.Sept.20th: Introduction to Southern Reconstruction. Background, powerpoint, and chart to complete.
Wed.Sept.21st: Lincoln vs. Johnson Reconstruction. We will do a comparison chart on those two ways of handling the South after the Civil War.
Thurs.Sept.22nd: The Johnson's Presidency along with the 13th,14th, and 15th Amendments sheets. HEAVY homework on those 3 documents.
Fri.Sept.23rd: The Black Codes group jigsaw activity.
Mon. Sept.26th: Black Codes cont. and citizen rights since our handbooks are due today. We will use the handbooks with the lesson today.
Tues.Sept.27th: Carpetbaggers, scalawags,KKK and other groups of thought during this era.
Wed.Sept.28th: Plessy v. Ferguson, Poll tax, lynching, and Compromise of 1877.
Thurs.Sept.29th: Review for Test I: Bridge unit and Unit I test review in class and after school.
Fri.Sept.30th: TEST I- BRIDGE UNIT AND UNIT I. 35 QUESTIONS AND A WRITING SECTION 100 POINT TEST
Mon.Oct.3rd: Introduction to Industrialization and Big Business.
Tues.Oct.4th: Big Business Debate. Introduction and research Day #1.
Weds.Oct.5th:Big Business Debate research and argument foundations.
Thurs.Oct.6th: Final preparations for debate. Opening statement write-up.
Fri.Oct.7th: Opening statements and arguments for debate.
