EDUCATION

AFA EXPOSED
This site is located at http://www.afaexposed.com. This site is maintained by the Trinagle Foundation and is used to combat, challenge and correct the lies, distortions and fear-based anti-gay activism of the American Family Association.

The AFA has had its ups and downs, but is still a powerhouse in fundamentalist Christian activism. They have a large legal staff, radio stations and over $10 million in their annual war-chest. They now pose the single largest obstacle to safety, security, and equality for GLBT Americans. Their mission is to roll back all existing civil rights protections and gains that our community has made over the past half century.

The AFA also wants to prevent any future progress of GLBT rights. It is offensive to them that GLBT people be treated as equals or as the first-class citizens we are. Their mission is one of bigotry, hate, and power. They achieve their mission, ironically, by violating basic Christian principals of honesty, kindness, and non-judgment.

Mission: GLSEN strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We believe that such an atmosphere engenders a positive sense of self, which is the basis of educational achievement and personal growth. Since homophobia in heterosexism undermine healthy school climate, we work to educate teachers, students, and public at-large about the damaging effects these forces have on youth and adults alike. We recognize that forces such as racism and sexism have similarly adverse impacts on communities, and we support schools in seeking in redress all such inequities. GLSEN seeks to develop school climates where difference is valued for the positive contribution it makes in creating a more vibrant and diverse community. We welcome as members any individual, regardless of sexual orientation or occupation, who is committed to see this philosophy realized in K-12 schools.
