LEAGUE Foundation Scholarship Program until April
The 2007 LEAGUE Foundation scholarship program is now receiving student applications until April 27, 2007.
Since 1996, the LEAGUE Foundation has continued to grow in its mission of providing financial resources for America's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender youth to attend institutions of higher learning. Now in its 11th year the LEAGUE Foundation has awarded 57 scholarships and applications have been received from students from all 50 states. Financial support has been received from corporations, individuals, and other GLBT organizations.
Applicants should graduate high school in 2007; identify themselves as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender; have achieved a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; are actively and substantially involved in community service; live in the United States; and have been accepted to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.
Scholarships currently open for application are:
Matthew Shepard Memorial Scholarship - Named for the Wyoming college student murdered in 1998 because of his sexual orientation. (name used with permission of the Shepard family)
Laurel Hester Memorial Scholarship - Working in conjunction with The Personal Liberty fund of the NJ Lesbian and Gay Coalition, this award was named after the Ocean County, NJ Police Lieutenant who successfully battled county freeholders for the right to leave her pension and other benefits to her surviving domestic partner.
