PAPPA LEGBA'S RAG
PAPPA'S RAG TO THE TRUE BELIEVER
Four horses stood their ground in a meadow made brown by the sun. Each horse had a dream, and it took Pappa's fancy to help them persue it.....Bear in mind that they had not summoned him so tradition told him that he could not interfere with their fates.
Nethertheless Pappa took an interest in the four horses and made up his mind to bless the one who shone with the true potential.
One day all of the horses looked accross the bay at the meadows beyond, and each one of them dreamt of the lush virgin grass that lay beyond.
Treacherous waters lay between them and their dream. The high spring tides would carry off the unsuspecting, and the Sea Mother was no friend of the foolish.
Each horse considered the risk and three of them made up their minds to beat the tides and gallop accross the sand to the lush meadows beyond.
The first horse declined the risk but would give no reason leaving the other horses to make up their own minds as to his motives. This horse was called SHACKLE
The second horse charged away accross the sands oblivious to the dangers. He held his head up high and used all his strength to beat the tide. In triumph he made it to the other side and was name VALIANT
The third horse took courage by Valiants effort and tried to beat the riseing tides. He failed and was swept away in the water. His name was MAYBE
The fourth horse looking on at the plight of Maybe decided he would stay were he was. He would be miserable but would live. His name was LONGING
Pappa looked on in interest and decided to bless one of the horses. Which one did he think best represented the spirit of the Loa?
