SECTION 1
Jason Watson.....He wasn't a bad guy but a fool. Spent such a little time doing what he wanted to do.
He had talent and a passion for music but he chose to ignore his talent. He would accept merely playing in pubs and clubs but dreamt of the bigger stage........
He was so desperately caught in the mundane world of work, relationships and money.
The money wasn't good so as the debts began to take over, his passion for music slipped away.......The worry just clogged up his head.
His lover at the time would squeeze the air out of him, desperately trying to keep him where she could manage him because she had no aspirations of her own and feared him moving on and leaving her behind.
Work gave him stability...but...perhaps it made him unhappy.......the dreamer at the tail end of every cruel joke.......stuck in a rut and couldn't get out. A waste!
The Loa watched this potential falling apart and like a flash they begun to re-build the damage.
He met Cougar Laing Bodene and his beloved Alice
Jay Niall Sunny Petit Chien evolved. A Houncee of the Loa. He had a new love and a new direction. He believed in the Loa and the Loa loved him in return.
A song bird of life emerged slowly.....He began to dis-regard what he didn't need and what held him back, he had a dream and it had been acknowledged.
The Loa they loved him more and Sunny was about to become a priest of the Loa........
Houngan Niall Sunny Grande Chien......A player of life, the dreamer who trys his best to make it happen.
If only everybody believed!
** SECTION 2 : THE ROOTS OF THE LOA **
The Loa is a spiritual tradition. It originated in Haiti during the time of French colonial slavery. Shortly after the arrival of the French many Taino and Arowak people were slain by the Spanish.
Many different African ethnic groups were forced into Haiti by the French and the Spanish to be put to slavery and others under French rule were moved to France primarily to work as slaves.
Some escaped and maintained a strong bond with the surviving Taino's.
Haiti now hosted many African ethnic groups all with different beliefs and ancestral backgrounds so a ceremonial order evolved between the African people to satisfy all ethnic groups. This became the birth of the Loa. Loa or Lwa is now upheld worldwide by all races, sex and colour and today over 60 million people participate in the Loa belief and similar religions called Umbanda, Quimbanda and Candomble which originate in South America.
In Yoruba language the word Loa means mystery and Vodou is the African word for spirit.
The reputation of the Loa (primarily called Voodoo) has been greatly tarnished mainly due to the influence of Hollywood, commercialism and myth but this is incorrect. It is not Shamanic or dark but quite the opposite!
Any participant is encouraged to incorporate this spiritual following with others after all it only makes the Loa richer...... So this is acceptable on the condition that it is incorporated with religion or spiritual belief based upon peace and not used with evil intent.
It is also common for participants, especially in the West to use the term "Voodoo" as a means of money making on a commercial stage. Money is not a bad word within the Loa but it is discredited when used for the wrong reasons.
The Loa is a tradition of resistance and togetherness. It is not all about magic but about a phylosophycal defence in a world that appears to be loosing its belief in its potential.
In some cases it appears that nowadays most people do not believe in their full potential! If you have doubt in yourself, others will doubt you!
** SECTION 3 : THE LOA **
The Ancestors are always with the iniciate and he/she is always aware of their presence. Many are your guides which I will explain to you via the links below but these are the main ancestors of the Loa. There are many more.
* Obalata *
Papa Legba / Grand Met ( Great God )
Erzulie / Goddess of love
Agwe / Spirit of the sea
Yemanja / Female spirit of the waters
Ogun / Spirit of war
Azra / The protector
Elleggua / guardian of doorways
Maman Bridget / Goddess of healing and poetry
The Loa resemble saints and believe in the afterlife and demons. Practicing initiates believe every follower of the Loa has a Gros Bon Ange ( a big guardian angel ) and a Ti Bon Ange ( small guardian angel). This spirit is called your Met Tet and he/she guards you and helps you develop your physical, mental and psychic skills.
The Loa do not wish to be worshipped but ask for your belief in them and your own participation in life.
Many Vodouisants who have led exceptional lives will one day be Loa also......but regardless of who you or your personal beliefs it is vital that you all participate in life and utilise every potential that you possess with belief!
Vodou priests can be male ( Houngan ) of female ( Mambo ). Both sexes are treated equally.
A Vodou temple is called a Hounfour. Inside the participant constructs an alter to act as a gateway to allow communication with the gods. The alter consists of items that resemble your chosen ancestors of the Loa. Offerings and feasts can be given through your alter and it will serve a personal spiritual purpose for you!
Loa initiates believe in one god ( Gran Met ) or Great Master. He is greatly powerful and knows everything.
Rituals are held to celebrate lucky events to escape a run of bad fortune, to celebrate a seasonal day associated with a Loa, for healing, at birth, marriage, death and initiations.
** SECTION 4 : LESSONS IN VODOU **
Please E mail me below if you have any questions.
A : WHO MAY PARTICIPATE
Anybody may participate in Vodou regardless of age, race, sexuality, religion, gender or nationality. There are no requirements at all........however to learn all the skills of a practicing initiate you have to be an ordained Mambo or Houngan.
B : CONSTRUCTING AN ALTER
The main idea of constructing your own alter is to create your own sacred doorway between the living and the spirit world.
At your alter you can speak to your ancestors, ask them for guidance and support, good fortune and health or whatever you wish. The ancestors love you. They will support you, guide you and try to do their best for you.
Here is what to do to make your alter.
1. Upon a wooden table lay down a red or white cloth.
2. Place a photo of a deceased relative who loves you dearly at the back of the alter. He/she will be a guide for you. You can talk to your chosen person from your alter and ask for guidance and support. Don't be afraid..this person loves you and means you no harm.
If you do not have a photo then perhaps an object belonging to the desired person.
3. Collect four stones from outside your house. Clean them in warm salt water or lay upon amythyst for 7 hours and place them at each corner of your alter.
4. Place a clear water vessel in the center of your alter (a glass bowl for example). Fill with water and add a few drops of white rum into the water.
A mirror is also very effective but more complex!
Look into the water bowl when meditating or searching for answers to questions you may have asked.
A simple meditation technique is to breath in through the nose feeling your stomach rise as you inhale......Hold for a count of three and slowly exhale out of your mouth.
Do this ten times or untill you feel relaxed.
Please E mail me if you wish to learn about more complex meditation techniques.
5. Place some soil from outside your house and some salt into a glass candle stick holder.
Place a white candle into the holder. Cover the candle in vegetable oil and try to transmit energy from your hand into the candle as you rub the oil over it.
Place the candle in its holder complete with soil and salt in front of your water vessel.
6. Decorate your alter with symbolic artifacts. Try not to over do it . Wooden masks, tribal symbols, colours.
Did your deceased relative like sweets or smoke?....If so place them upon your alter as a gift.
You can also place crystals upon your alter and offerings to the Loa like rum or cigars.
C. A CEREMONY YOU CAN DO YOURSELF!
The Loa love you and will help you as best as they can so why not repay the favour by giving them an ancestral feast!
Favourite foods are rice, chicken, yams, plankton, fish, fruit, milk, fresh fruit juice, rum, beer, grilled corn and peanuts (mostly white foods).
Try to avoid red meats, eggs and salt!
1. Place your foods in seperate dishes upon your alter. In each dish place a white candle.
Put liquids in glasses and place a white candle beside them.
2. Raise each dish to your head, heart and pubic area and place them back on your alter.
3. Talk to the Loa and ancestors, tell them about how you feel, what you desire. Ask them for health, love and joy.
4. Light the candles and leave the room.
5. Only when the candles have stopped burning can you clear away the food. When you do, make sure that it is disposed seperate to all other waste!
D. SPELLS FOR BEGINNERS
Love spell!
To catch that person you really love make a doll ( dohjo ) from canvass or even some fairly descent cloth.
Fill the doll with rose petals and an item belonging to the one you love. Sew up the doll and nurture the doll in front of your alter every day for 1 week.......You must leave the doll upon the alter after every days session!
Good luck!
