For Returning Visitors: Updates for March 5, 2008.
I) A Lucky Break. Chess players can now read a lengthy review of my chess book at www.chessville.com You will find a lot of other material of interest also on their site. I am happy to say that sales have picked up since the book was reviewed.II) On the Move. I am still hoping to revisit St. Mark’s Place on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The New Voices Bookstore (formerly on 424 East 9th Street) is relocating. My chess book will be on the shelf at their new location. When I am informed of their new address, I shall update my viewers. Most chess books try to help players learn from the games of the masters. My book is different: it helps players learn from their own games.
III) Back to Chess. The death of Bobby Fischer brought back a lot of memories. It even caused me to return to tournament play. On March 3, I played in the first round of the Dutchess County Chess Championship. I won and will update you on the succeeding rounds. In the meantime, I'll soon have my chess games on my site. The board on the bottom of this page is the chess puzzle of the day.

Greetings to all my friends and readers, and to anyone interested in programming, running, and chess. I am 55 years old and have an M.A. in English from Fordham University. Five years ago I began writing nonfiction when I learned that my employer was about to go out of business. I worked at a child welfare agency in Manhattan for 20 years.I have taught myself enough C to say that I am no longer a beginner. I hope to resume study of it in 2008.
Brain Bombardment: Five Years in Print
My first book--Brain Bombardment: A Runner's Diary--is being sold at my publisher's on-line bookstore. (See link near bottom of page.) My book explores the usefulness of running as part of an all-around program of mental conditioning. It has some funny stories about life at my former office. To strengthen my application in later years, I am now writing an algebra book.

Martha Stewart Project Finally Resumes. I call it the Martha Stewart Project because Martha is my role model for web sites. The project resumed on January 8, 2008, and will include the expansion of Patrick and Debbie's Think Tank. Some new material will be there, probably beginning in late January of this year. As for this Webspawner site, I'll keep it alive to make announcements, tell stories, and let viewers sign my guestbook. My think tank will be the more serious of the two sites.
Proving It. I have begun learning how to do a Math Proof.
