MY DAUGHTER AND I NEED YOUR HELP !!!!!
In June of 2002 I was laid off from my job and immediatly applied for unemployment compensation. After three weeks of waiting I received a letter in the mail telling me I was not eligible for unemployment due to the date of which I had originally filed. So, next came the process of re-application and finally after six weeks of zero income, I received my first unemployment check of $268.00. During those six weeks my electric was disconnected, my car was repossessed and we had very little to eat. I went to apply for Welfare and was informed that we did not qualify for immediate assistance because we were not homeless. After being informed of this I cried and have never felt so lost in my life. We have stood in Food Bank lines, went to soup kitchens, and I cried alot. It amazes me that most people in the USA are only one paycheck away from being homeless and it breaks my heart. My unemployment ended on the 4th of December, and I have since found a job of which pays $8.00 an hour. However, it is impossible to get caught up on bills and we do not have a car. My daughters school is too close for the bus to pick her up, and the school is too far to walk to and from everyday. (we live one and one half miles away from school) My daughter has chronic asthma and sometimes the weather does not permit. I am not looking for handouts I just wanted people to know it is hard on everybody and I understand. My daughter taught me a lesson the other day about love and life and I would like to share it with you as well.
The other day I was telling my daughter that because of our money situation she may not have a Christmas. I started to cry because she is such a good girl and she is my best friend. She looked at me with her big blue eyes and told me: "Mommy Christmas is not about presents, Christmas is about spending time with your family and eating Christmas dinner". I looked at her for a minute and I thought for the first time in my life, Children really are the closest ones to heaven.
She went to see Santa and I overheard her ask Santa for a car for us, she never once asked for anything herself. I really am blessed maybe not monitarily but I sure have an angel by my side everyday.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone out there who has an angel story like mine. I really wish I could ask for money or handouts becasue I have heard if you do not ask then how can you be helped? I will leave that up to you the reader.
