Pachamama is a perfect introduction for young people to the environmental challenges that await us in the 21st century. Based on UNEP's authoritative Global Environment Outlook, its describes both the state of the world's environment and what action governments, and young people, are taking to address the problem face. Drawn from the contributors of thousands of young people around the world, the book includes personal accounts, poems, illustrations and fold-out Ecomaze game to test the reader's new knowledge.
Pachamama echoes the famous words reportedly spoken by chief Seatlle:
"The Earth is our Mother. Whatever befalls the Earth befalls the son and daughters of the Earth. This we know. We did not weave the web of life. We are merely a strand in it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves"
It's all started when JEGOM childrens and coordinators attended the Millenium International Childrens Conference in May 2000 at Eastbourne, United Kingdom. Pachamama tells about what is being done around the world. We attended the workshop and we feels its a great book to be shared with Malaysian children's. Pachamama is an Inca word that means much more that 'Mother Earth'. It suggest a lifestyle in harmony with nature. JEGOM decided to organised the Pachamama workshops with JEGOM members and Rinching Hilir childrens as our communities project.
Pachamama adalah buku yang memberi pengenalan pembelajaran mengenai alam sekitar kepada kanak-kanak. Projek pengenalan Pachamama ini anjuran JEGOM adalah satu projek kemasyarakatan dimana peserta tidak di kenakan bayaran. Tumpuan akan diberi kepada kanak-kanak dibawah umur 14 tahun. Kanak-kanak Pachamama ini juga akan dibentuk bagi pemilihan Persidangan Kanak-kanak tahun 2001 di Kanada.
Projek ini akan bermula pada Oktober 2000 dan dijangka berakhir pada Disember 2001, Ia akan diadakan pada setiap minggu pertama pada setiap bulan di Kem Rinching Hilir. Ia tidak termasuk lawatan keluar kawasan kem.
