16) Clamp down on advertising and promotion of sodas and fast foods. This isn't positive. It is making us fat. All the diets and scoldings have left us as the fattest nation on earth. The definition of stupidity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results.
17) Use public resources to subsidize a healthy and delicious fast food chain. Fast food franchises have proved to be a very efficient and popular way to get cooked meals to people. How about if the government or a nonprofit subsidized a chain of healthy fast food type restaurants? Right now they are wasting money on failed tactics, while we get fatter. Do something different. This restaurant could serve healthy food that, cooked vegetables, pasta, healthy breakfasts, & ethnic food. We could get talented chefs involved so hopefully the food would taste really good, not bland frozen stuff. The food could be sold at affordable rates.
Imagine if you could get a platter with steamed rice(brown or white) vegetables,(like a mixture of sauteed zucchini, squash, onion, tomato and bell pepper) and grilled fish for a reasonable price? I used to order that off the menu at an Italian restaurant that I frequented. Every time I did everyone wanted to know what it was because it looked good to them. I believe that, as people have greatly stopped cooking, there is a market for meals like that if someone can tap it correctly. In spite of my repeated suggestions, this restaurant never would put this item on the menu. For this and other reasons, they went out of business.
I know that a fast food place like KFC will try something like this and it doesn't work. I think that KFC had a roast chicken plate with green beans. It didn't last that long. Perhaps the reason was that health-conscious people will not want to eat MSG, Tyson chicken, hydrogenated oil and stuff like that. I was curious about it but didn't get down here before they took if off the menu. Perhaps healthier food needs to be done right with good ingredients and perhaps sold in an atmosphere that appeals to the right consumers. Burger King has tried some healthier foods recently but messed them up. Their baked potato was awful. Their salads were no good. Salads have to be cut up on site each morning, for one thing. No precut stuff. These salads also had too many little packages to open.
Imagine if you could leave work and get high quality meals at a reasonable price at a drive through on your way home? Wouldn't that work for you?
What if this place didn't have fluorescent lights but instead had soothing, incandescent lighting? I'm not saying that these places should be a palaces, but how about if their were comfortable, pleasant, places where you could sit and hear yourself think? We have enough places where you can't right now already. Many many restaurants use loud music to move people out and keep them from sitting and talking. How about if this one was a place people could hear each other speak. These restaurants could become centers of the community.
It's not realistic to think that we will all be eating home-cooked meals again. I think the answer to obesity is to make fast food companies stop shoving sweets and fatty foods in our faces and to beat them at their own game by distributing healthy, delicious, affordable meals at a fast food-like franchise.

NEWS ITEM, MCDONALD'S SUED OVER USE OF TRANS FATS
You can find more information about this at TFAsettlement.com and
BanTransFats.com
McDonald's was sued for lying about reducing the trans fats in their foods. Very bad, Mickey D's. They still are lying about this now. Basically McDonalds still uses a lot of trans fats, or partially hydrogenated oils, in their foods. Stopping would be simple. They would just have to throw out the partially hydrogenated oils they have on hand now and never buy they again. They've done this in Denmark where trans fats are banned by law. McDonald's is using up all the brownie points they made when they stopped supersizing after the Super Size Me movie.
Write to the CEO of McDonalds and tell him if he doesn't cut out the trans fats, STAT, you will be taking your business elsewhere:
