From Bill Suiter Jul 21st:
I continue to entertain at Nursing Homes, Senior Day Care Centers and groups of seniors at churches and other gathering places with my stories, some harmonica music and maybe some singing. I teach collecting and telling of family stories at the Shepherd's Center of Melbourne here where I live.
I am active in my church and currently chair two committees there. I also am active in the Brevard County, Florida, Chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America.
We survived two of Florida's four hurricanes last year, losing our fence and some shrubs, but our home was not damaged.
Health wise, I had quadruple by-pass surgery and replace- ment of my pace maker last September and total hip replacement in January and have fully recovered from both. I fact, I am back on the golf course.
The bad news is that my wife, Marla, is suffering from a failed total knee replacement 18 months ago, suffering from wrist surgery that won't heal, and suffering from severe asthma.
Because of my health and Marla's current problems, we are not able to travel. We have children and grandchildren in California and in Vienna, but they visit us when they can. We have two grandchildren and three great grandchildren here in Florida and do see them from time to time.
From Ed Ramsey Jul 21st:
I'm still ticking. After finishing college (MA) I became a general contractor and built houses in the area of Austin, Texas where I have resided after leaving the Air Force. I'm completely retired now. Play lots of golf now, - lots of golf - and help around the house. Some things to remember: I still use soap to shave with, I can still do 50 push-ups (80 actually), I still do not carry a billfold and I still try to carry myself as a gentleman in appearance.
From Milt Jones Jul21st:
I wish that I could give you some exciting things that we are doing, but, all we do it seems is play golf (twice a week), mow lawns and go to the doctor. Next Tuesday is my first chemotherapy appointment so all is in abeyance until we see how I tolerate that little bit. Sorry that there is not more.
From Nan Burer Jul 22nd:
It's great to have so many wonderful, prayerful friends and I would love to talk with each one of you but I'm not home that much. Know that I thank the LORD every day for each of you.
Always look forward to the Newsletter - our only news is that physically Art is doing better but mentally, it's downhill. The good part is that he still feeds himself, shaves and dresses with some prompting and has his usual sweet spirit. When his back really gives him a lot of pain he speaks of suicide - but I think that it is mostly frustration on his part. Still watch him closely and encourage him all we can. The kids are great - have a friend who is in the same boat as I and she says her kids rarely call or come to see them - sometimes ours can want to do too much - GOD BLESS THEM and I thank the LORD for their sweet nature.
Hope all other news is on the up side and that all our classmates and mates are doing well - let's keep it that way.
From Ray Smith, Jul 23rd:
Greetings from the Adirondack Mountains:
Continuing my battle with heart problems, maintaining a low profile. I'm deeply into genealogy and currently writing a history for the Wesleyan Church of Long Lake, NY.
Sadly I watch our decreasing numbers and wish the very best to all the rest.
From Al McNeal Jul 24th:
Not much going on in my life that has been any different than the other 73 years. Marie died in 2001 and I am now remarried to a lady named Sara. We live in Florida the winters and Michigan in the summer. That is about to change because I am going to sell my home in Michigan and live in Florida year around. Play golf and poker constantly. Love both. Keep in touch.
Obituary
We note the passing of another classmate. Ace Hale died July 3, 2005. Ace was a stanch member of our association and he was also a loyal member of class 57D's association. Jack Fox, our association president, in his letter of condolence said:
"I corresponded with Hale regarding his status in our group. It was necessary to assure Hale that he was a full-fledged and respected member because our group included all who experienced OCS life during March-September 1957 - graduation was not required nor was it an issue. We were all pleased that Hale came to realize his membership was an important part of his life, and he became an important part of our association."
