Reunion Dates

Las Vegas Apr 18 to 22
The Gold Coast Casino & Hotel

JACK’S CORNER: (JACK FOX)

In previous newsletters I asked you to think about discussion topics for the class meeting at the Gold Coast. All subjects are eligible but the most important one will be discussing the where, when, how and who for the 2006 gathering. Whether we return to the Gold Coast or attempt to return to San Antonio or some other city, the decision should be made during the reunion. If we decide to explore a new Midwest or Eastern locale - is a joint effort with 57-B and D a viable option? I promise not to nag or rag on this subject again, at least until we meet in Las Vegas.

Despite the new look of this reunion (less structure) there should be no apprehension about the fun factor. We have a surprise or two lined up, not the least of which is a high level rendition of what is going on in the U.S. State Department with national foreign policy. Those who attended the 2002 reunion in Laughlin have an idea of what's in store. Bernice and I are looking forward to reuniting with you on April 18th.

Spring is just around the corner and a few weeks after that is the next association reunion in Las Vegas. There is no better way to shake off the winter blues and spend a few joyful days basking in the comradeship of your classmates, their spouses and friends. Our president, Jack Fox, and many others, have been working for months planning the event arranging hotel accommodations and taking reservations. Not only that but there will be a guest speaker, a banquet, golf, etc to keep you fully entertained. We expect more than 50 to attend. Unfortunately poor health restricts some of the faithful that attended previous reunions-to them "You are remembered in our prayers." And for those who have made the final roll, call-You will always be remembered, God Bless.

Since the last newsletter, I've had to research several cases where a snail mail address/e-mail address/phone number isn't up-to-date. Usually I find out when an e-mail bombs or when I cannot make telephone contact. In one case we had a phone number that Mr. ____ had not used for years. When I tried to call him, I got an answering machine and I left a message even though the voice on the answering machine did not sound familiar. Needless to say I got no response to the voice mail I left on the stranger's machine. He is probably still scratching his head wondering, "Who the heck is Dale and why is he asking me to call back about OCS, a subject I know nothing about." So if you have an address or phone number change, be sure to let Dave, our editor, know about the change. Then watch for the update in the next newsletter. I'm sure Dave will take care to post the change. However, you may have to box Dave about the ears as necessary and pull a "white one" if the change gets missed.

Now, a bit of trivia. I used the word "comradeship" earlier and then a had some doubt about proper usage. Here is what I found in Dictionary.com:

"Comradeship n.
Word History: A comrade can be socially or politically close, a closeness that is found at the etymological heart of the word comrade. In Spanish the Latin word camara, with its Late Latin meaning "chamber, room," was retained, and the derivative camarada, with the sense "roommates, especially barrack mates," was formed."

I lucked out. Roommates and barrack mates are an apt and accurate descriptions of our affiliation.

PHIL’S BILLS (Phil Meek)

The treasury remains healthy with limited activity during the past quarter. We will have expenses for the forthcoming reunion. The report for the past three months follows:

Beginning Balance: $3,148.98
Receipts:
Dues Payments: $160.00

Ending Cash Balance: $ 3,308.98

In addition we have a $300.00 advance deposit for the reunion.

Best Regards,

Phil

GOUDY’S GROWL (Dennis Goudy)

The absolutely worst part of the job of registrations is refunding fees to the survivors of classmates/wives. This just happened for the fourth time since last Spring, and I HATE it. Anybody want this job next time? Sorry, I know I should be upbeat here.

The good news is that our expected attendance has increased from 41 to 54 since the last newsletter. I'm sure there will be additions in the next two months, but we can expect a smaller group this time. That seems to be the experience with reunions. That's not all bad; with a smaller group one can spend more time everyone. I know that
our smaller off-year meetings have been successful.

MILT’S PUTTER (Milt Jones)

GOLFERS: So far we have four gents and five ladies confirmed for our reunion golf outing on Tuesday the 20th. Some have asked for a practice round to be scheduled on Monday the 19th. Anyone interested in playing on either day, please let me or Dennis know before March 15th. I must make arrangements for tee times on Monday and Tuesday by March 19th. I would like to have a meeting of golfers in the Hospitality Room Monday evening to decide on the type of format we should use or if we want to create a prize pool like a "Honey Pot" or a "Skins Game". Any suggestions will be appreciated.

DICK'S PICKS (Dick Nagel)

(Editor's Note: Again) Dick has been extremely busy for the past year completely overhauling the website and has made all of us very proud of him for the doing of it. If you haven't seen it lately go to it soon and see what we are all cheering about.)
