Commendation
We, the members of the Class of 1957C of the United States Officer Candidate School, do hereby applaud and commend our brothers and sisters in arms who recently conducted the victorious campaign in Iraq and have, forever changed the face of the combat soldier to that of a totally
compassionate, humane, and caring believer in freedom. We are proud to be Americans and to have been represented by these personnel. We who fought elsewhere and at a different time, salute you and all of your fellow citizens. God Bless the United States of America.
So Say We All
JACK’S CORNER: (JACK FOX)
The support shown for Art Burer and Irma Larsen as they struggle with serious health problems is most heartening. There are many others with medical difficulties and our thoughts and prayers go out to all OCS family members facing health uncertainties.
It's too early for a state of the union message, but I'm happy to report that the three major events on the docket are all shaping up to be fun-filled events. Gil and Jeannie Whiteman's Laid-Back Connecticut Reunion commences in a short six weeks and the Baja Cruise is less than four months away. Accommodations are still available and there's a good chance that Royal Caribbean will book passengers up until the sailing date - 13 October.
The really big show, aka the 2004 Biennial Reunion, is less than 11 months away and I'm hoping we can bring a surprise or two to this special event. Dennis Goudy recently asked for your cooperation in keeping him informed of your intentions regarding registration; I can only add that this is very important for us when negotiating with Gold Coast. Much of our planning is based on projected attendance and we have little to go on without input from those planning to attend. Formal registration is not critical at this stage. Spirits are running high on the left coast.

DALE’S Domain (DALE SHIPLEY)
Jack Fox, our association president, is off and running again with plans for the 2004 biannual reunion. And he has a tremendous group helping him. Dennis, Milt, Bob, Frank, Dave and Phil have been committee members for previous association reunions and produced outstanding get-togethers. Just goes to show that when someone does a great job, they get a chance to do again and do it even better. Have you made your reservation?????
I’d like to see 100% of class 57C in Las Vegas in April of next year. Here’s how we can do it. With at least one “volunteer” from Wing Staff, Group Staffs and each squadron to spread the word, it should be an easy task. I‘d like to see a personal approach made to every classmate. We’re in a communication world so let’s go with e-mail, snail mail, telephone, and/or face-to-face contact and do not take no for an answer. If a classmate is not an association member, encourage them to sign up and come to Las Vegas. Those who haven’t been to a reunion really don’t know what they have missed.
The volunteer list has only two names at this time. Here they are:
For Tiger Two (2nd Squadron)-- Dale Shipley
For the Thundering Third (3rd Squadron)–- Dave HarveyShould sufficient volunteers not be forthcoming, I may need to appoint some “unit representatives”. May I add your name to the list? Would you volunteer right now, even before finishing this Newsletter? Please send me an e-mail to dale.shipley@mail.biz.colostate.edu right now.
The 13Oct-17Oct cruise is still on schedule. There is nothing new to report at this time. Our AAA travel agent will be looking for full payment in the near future. Should anyone have found that week in October open in your busy schedules, and should you now like to join the cruise group, let me know about your wishes. I make no promises but will try to have your name(s) added to the attendee list.
That's it for this time. For the October cruise:

HURRY! HURRY! HURRY!
The time is drawing nigh to register for the 3rd official biennial reunion of our class. There are only ten and a half months until the big day arrives, so don’t put it off and be left out. The checks have been rolling in and have overwhelmed my postal delivery man (he’s quite frail.)
The funds are drawing interest to our benefit--$0.04 already! If you can’t manage the $45 per person fee at this time, or would prefer to get the interest yourself, let me know that you are planning to attend so that your friends will know.Registered: 10)

MILT’S PUTTER (Milt Jones)
There very definitely will be a golf tourney at the 2004 reunion in Las Vegas, most likely at the Nellis course, and you can look forward to all the necessary information just as soon as I have it all arranged.

DAVE’S DRIVEL (Dave Harvey)
Being who I am, and with the record that I have accrued over lo these many years since the late ides of March in 1957, I am required to announce that yet another mistake, error, commission of stupidity, and a great loss of judgment have resulted in my total loss of a hard-drive which contained everything so far developed for the records of this class and all others. Over 6 gigabytes of both archived information and carefully refurbished and restored photographs have been forever lost into the ether of cyberspace. Having been graced with some luck, and a great deal of original information, I will, in time, recover what was lost and will again rebuild the vast files that have been lost. Until that time however, my ability to provide fully accurate written and photographic support will be somewhat limited. I offer my sincerest apologies and will spend whatever time on the ramp is necessary…(they do allow wheelchairs on the ramp don’t they?)(As of that writing what I announced was completely accurate…however…having spoken just slightly hastily, I have contacted an expert in “Cyber Search and Recovery” and he has recovered about 98% of what was apparently lost. He spent countless hours using test equipment and skills far beyond mine to recapture and copy file by file almost every bit of the folders and folders full of files which had electrically become unreadable by a shorted-out hard drive and a bad USB interface.)
I hope this new format for the newsletter falls within the acceptance of our group. If you have any suggestions for its improvement please send all suggestions to my newest and now primary e mail address:
dharvey2704@charter.netAs ever,
Dave
(Editor’s Note: When it comes to apologies let it never be said that The Harv doesn’t offer them…course it might be because he’s such a goof up…but then…A long time ago I swore to Bobby Sims that I had returned a bunch of pictures to him…well…it seems that I may have made a hasty statement…or two…A gremlin found a largish box of prints labeled for Bobby Sims from Bobby Sims…does one suppose that it will do me any good to apologize again?)P.S.
A good many websites have become very popular nowadays due to the fantastic response that the citizens have made to the rather miraculous fight for the freedom of Iraq. I commend the attitudes that have created them and that have brought out the spirit of American patriotism which many of our classmates missed by being part of an unpopular war, or two, or more…I also take great pride in those brothers and sisters who have again proved the value of strength in force and professional compassionate abilities which have always been the key difference between a soldier and an American Fighting Man (or woman)…...Dave The Harv Harvey
