Reunion Dates

Las Vegas Apr 18 to 22
The Gold Coast Casino & Hotel

JACK’S CORNER: (JACK FOX)

Photos of the Baja Cruise should be up and captioned on Dick Nagel's web page by this reading. Thirteen of us were treated to beautiful weather, delicious food and most of all, a chance to spend quality time with each other on the October cruise. This leads me to admit being asleep-at-the-wheel when the cruise idea was in the making. Splitting into two cruises never entered my mind and had a member suggested it, we probably would have had a cruise departing from New Orleans or Florida. There was no reason to limit our cruises to one coast or the other and when we meet next April in Las Vegas, this will be a subject for serious discussion since many of our members want to continue with a planned activity in the year between our regular biennial reunions.

Since we are not formally organized, your management team acts primarily in an advisory capacity. We have no intention of stifling initiative and creativity, which leaves the door open for event planning by any and all members. The only restriction is the obvious avoidance in conflicting with our biennial reunions regularly scheduled for the even numbered years. I'm repeating previously spoken and written words because there have been suggestions that a European land tour may be a popular choice for an off-year event. The 10-11 day bus tours are similar in cost to the five-day ocean cruises. So think about your preferences for the biennial 2006 reunion and an activity for 2005 as major discussion items at our April 2004 class meeting.

Jack

DALE’S Domain (DALE SHIPLEY)

CRUISE: As predicted the cruise from Los Angeles to San Diego, Catalina Island, Ensenada, Mexico and back to Los Angeles was a fun time. Good food, good entertainment and great companionship were the order of the day. The relaxed atmosphere and gregarious friends combined to make it a memorable event. It is unfortunate that we had so much fallout due to health but reality is the fact that we are no longer a bunch of young kids. Age is creeping up on us and we are fortunate that any can partake of our get-togethers.
REUNION: And speaking of get-togethers, it seems that April of 2004 is rushing at us. It is only about four months away. Las Vegas here we come for the next association reunion. If you haven’t registered yet, do it NOW. If you know about a classmate that's still sitting on the fence, give him/her a friendly nudge. They’ll never know what they are missing until they join us for a few fun days of kinship. We now have 2004 Reunion Promoters for all squadrons. Dick Edwards has agreed to take the task for 6th Squadron. Here’s the complete list:
1st Sqdn Stan Lowry
2nd Sqdn Dale Shipley
3rd Sqdn Dave Harvey
4th Sqdn Bill Weimer
5th Sqdn Buzz Mallette and Sam Marks
6th Sqdn Dick Edwards
7th Sqdn Karin (Younger) Goudy
MEMBERSHIP: My face is a bit red as I failed to renew my membership when it became due last September. What a veep?? Thanks to our faithful treasurer for reminding me of my delinquency and he didn’t even ask for a “white one.” I can now say, the check is in the mail. How about you? Is your membership current? Just remember that the date for payment or renewal is September 20th each year. It’s only ten bucks so if you overlooked it like I did put a check in the mail and wipe that egg off your face.

For your consideration,

Dale

PHIL’S BILLS (Phil Meek)

Dave filled in admirably in the last newsletter as Beth and I were incommunicado on an extended trip in our motor home to the Midwest and the east coast. I can now report that I have been in 49 states of our great country and hope to get to the last one sometime in the near future.

Association dues receipts have dwindled during 2003. The date for dues payment is Sep 20 of each year. This date, of course, is the graduation date for the class. Thirteen members have slipped beyond that date for 2003. Overall our treasury remains in good condition for association activities. Treasury activities since May 2003 were as follows:

Beginning Balance: $3260.89
Receipts:
Dues Payments: $30.00
Expenses:
Class Website Hosting $41.91
Memorials $100.00
Ending Cash Balance: $3,148.98

In addition we have a $300.00 cash deposit for the 2004 reunion.

Classmates who wish to remain current on annual dues may do so by sending a check to Forrest P. Meek, 1319 E. Palo Verde Dr., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Dues remain at $10.00 per year and payments for multiple years is encouraged. In Brotherhood,

Phil

GOUDY’S GROWL (Dennis Goudy)

Soon the holidays will be over, and another new year will be here--already!! They sure come fast. But first, on December 17 we will observe the centennial of flight-100 years since the first controlled flight of a manned, powered, heavier-than-air craft. This was an event that changed the lives of all of us, especially those of us who spent decades in the U.S. Air Force. Personally I am celebrating by building a model of the 1903 Wright Flyer. Yes, a balsa-wood model like the model airplanes we all built in our childhood.

Okay, back to business. As you know, I am accepting registrations (and money!) for our third really big reunion next April. (I was demoted from Tour Director to Registrar after the Laughlin wading party.) We have increased the numbers to 26 registered and 15 others planning to attend-not bad with four months to go.

As we have been so sadly reminded recently, our numbers are inevitably going to decrease as the years take their toll. So we must renew our friendships before it becomes too late.

MILT’S PUTTER (Milt Jones)

If anyone has any thoughts of playing golf at the coming reunion, we must have your input in the near future. So far we have four confirmed players and that surely won't qualify for tournament status. The cost will still be around $39, for cart and green fees, plus club rental. I will have enough balls, tees, ball mark repairers, etc. Also any inputs from potential players as to the format for this outing will be accepted and appreciated. As the general membership does not support our golf financially. Money and or prizes for ability awards will be provided by the players. Thanks,

Milt

DICK'S PICKS (Dick Nagel)

Our website finally and totally exceeded the system capabilities! The Webspawner people have set me up in their new user system. Consequently our site will be undergoing major surgery ( I'm not sure if it's a hemerroidectomy or a hemorrhoid transplant) over the next several months. Our website can be accessed in the same way as always, but I will slowly be replacing old pages with new pages. You will notice that the new home page now has a few new features - there is a new menu in the upper left corner to access the "guest book" - the old messages in the guest book are all still there. Also notice a feature called "gallery" on this menu. If you click on it now, you will see 4 new gallery pages with the October 2003 cruise photos by Bobby Sims in there. Right now all the gallery pages will be on the same button. The Webspawner people will give me an upgrade after the first of the year so I can tie selected galleries to a specific page. In the meantime I will slowly replace all the photo pages from the old system with general gallery pages in the new system. If you want to see anything new or different, please let me know and I will try to do it."

Dick
