I was born in Salina, Utah on July 19, 1932. My wife, Bessie, was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on December 27, 1932. I grew up in Arizona, and dropped out of high school. I then joined the Air Force on October 6, 1947.

After basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas, I was sent to Scott AFB, Illinois for Radio Operator School. From 1948 to 1949, I served at Smokey Hill AFB, Salina, Kansas (SAC) as a radio operator on B-29s. During this time, I served TDY in England and Germany.

In 1949, Smokey Hill AFB closed down, and I was transferred to Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. On my way through Oklahoma City, I met Bessie. My Air Force career, and subsequent activities, goes something like this:

From 1949 to 1954, I was with the 301st Air Refueling Wing, TDY most of the time. Bessie Belle South and I were married in 1952. A year later, our daughter, Sherrie Lee was born and then another year later, we were blessed with the birth of another daughter, Terrie Anne.

In 1954, I was assigned to Air Force Security Service in Japan, and transferred to March AFB, California, still with AFSS, in 1955. With you, I was assigned to OCS, commencing the program in March 1957. Our third daughter, Jerrie Kay was born while we were in OCS.

Upon graduation, I was assigned to Communication Officer School at Scott AFB, Illniois, and then was sent to Korea in 1958. From there, I began duties in an accompanied tour in Okinawa, which lasted from 1959 to 1962.

Selected for AFIT in 1962, I completed the program at Arizona State University in 1964, and was transferred to Keesler AFB, Mississippi for the period 1964-1965, and then to Griffis AFB, New York during 1965-1966. From there, it was back to Korea (1966-1967) and then an accompanied tour to Wiesbaden, Germany 1967-1970. From Deutschland, I was assigned to Luke AFB, Arizona, during which tour I got a real estate license, and I retired from the Air Force in October 1971, and moved to New River, Arizona in 1972.

From 1972 to 1979, I worked as a real estate broker and a full service insurance agent. I served as a regular reserve deputy sheriff from 1972 to 1976, published a newspaper, took a two-year degree in real estate, rode horseback over central Arizona with the Arizona Rough Riders.

(Editors note: Boyd has informed me that he has apparently omitted, by accident, the birth of his son, Jim Boyd Dailey, born 12-6-1965.)

In 1979, we moved to Black Canyon City, Arizona and, with a partner, opened a caf (The 4 Bs Caf, named for Boyd, Bessie, Bill, and Betty). From 1982 to 1985, we owned a bar.

For the past fifteen years, Bessie has been very ill, so we have not been able to travel.

Thank you, and take care!

Boyd and Bessie

(Editors Note: Boyds wife, Bessie, died in June 2001. All members of OCS Class 57C were informed.)

Editor's Note: Boyd passed away on June 23, 2006. He is layed to rest in Cave Creek, AZ at the National Memorial Cemetary.
