EDWARD R. (ED) BERG Captain, USAF (Retired)
USAF OCS Class 57C, OC Major, 2nd Group Commander
![]()
I was born in August 1931 and enlisted in the National Guard when I was fifteen years old. I joined the regular Air Force when I was seventeen, in June 1949.
Having been selected for OCS in 1956, I fell upon some problems, and graduated with Class 57C, after having given 57A a try.Selected for pilot training, once again adversity set in, and I wasn’t able to complete that program. My subsequent duties were in AC&W. I retired as a captain with twenty-three years service, in 1970.
Since then, I have worked as an independent fishing boat guide and a “sucker stripper.” (Try to figure that one out!) In the summer season, I help a friend with sugar beet harvesting and transportation . . . and I play a LOT of golf!Mary and I were married in 1971, and between us we have five children (his, hers, and ours), twenty-four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. We spend the winters in Arizona (not far from Dennis and Karin Goudy) and the summers in Minnesota.
I’ve enjoyed working with the committee on planning the 2002 reunion, and am looking forward to that, as well as (hopefully) attending the off-year 57C gathering in Connecticut in June 2001.
