LOWELL T. COOKE Major, USAF (Retired)
USAF OCS Class 57C, OC TSGT, 1st Squadron
![]()
I spent my entire AF career in Air Weather Service, 1948 - 1972. After OCS, I was assigned to Foster AFB Victoria, Texas from September 1957 to June 1958. From there, I was sent to Cannon AFB, Clovis, New Mexico, where I served from June 1958 until March 1960. I then attended Florida State University under an Air Force program, where I earned the Bachelor of Science degree, March 1960 to May 1962. After that schooling, I went to Schilling AFB, Kansas and stayed there from May 1962 until April 1964.I was divorced in May 1963. I attended the University of Missouri from May 1964 until April 1966, earning the Master of Science degree. I was then assigned to Wiesbaden Air Base, Germany from April 1966 to April 1968. I remarried in London in 1967.
My Air Force duties brought me to Washington, DC from May 1968 until June 1971, and I was then transferred to Saigon, Vietnam. I left Vietnam and retired from the Air Force in March 1972.I worked for NOAA May 1972-1974. After that, I worked for Phelps_Dodge Corporation in Douglas, Arizona as a meteorologist from 1976 to 1977.
I started working in Monterey, California in 1978 and am still working here as a computer programmer.
As you can see, nothing exciting has happened in my life, since leaving the military -- just an ordinary working life. But, thanks to the Air Force education that I received, most of the work has been well compensated, challenging, and interesting.
