JOHN A. (JACK) WALTERS Captain, USAF (Retired)
USAF OCS CLASS 57C, OC TSGT, 3rd Squadron

After “The Long, Long Time Till September…” I went through pilot training at Mission and Big Springs, Texas. From there I went through training into B-47’s, B-52’s, and finally C-130’s.When I left SAC and flew C-130’s for TAC, life got exciting again. Besides flying to a lot of the world, I flew in the Congo and Vietnam, where I was awarded the DFC for flying into Khe Sanh when the natives there were not too friendly.
Although I was on the promotion list to major, I wouldn’t sign the extension contract for the two-year retainability. It was a volunteer statement to go anywhere in the world (read Vietnam) and therefore, I didn’t make major.
When I left the USAF, I worked in electronics until the industry went broke. I then went into the construction field, and became a journeyman carpenter and journeyman plumber.I am now happily retired with my second wife (Dale) of twenty-two years, in Rosarita, Mexico. Between us, we have seven children, ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild. That’s eighteen to add to the population explosion.
