It doesn't seem possible, but the 12 month countdown to our 2007 reunion is underway. Here's hoping gas prices abate. Those arriving by air will find the Doubletree ideally suited near the airport and a rental car is not an absolute necessity. I'm assuming all have received the latest update from our 57-C reunion coordinators, Dick and Val Edwards. A big thanks to Dick and Val is in order for their diligence in getting this important event rolling. Those who attended the 1999 reunion in San Antonio will recall that the hotel cost was considered quite high at that time. Dick and Val scoured the San Antonio area, selected the Doubletree and negotiated a very good rate in line with 1999 prices! Some of the downtown hotels now charge over $200 per night. Being out on the loop away from the downtown congestion and parking problem is a distinct advantage - downtown parking was a frustrating experience at the 1999 event.
There will be activities for all tastes, including a golf skins game. Winners will receive some outstanding prizes. Dick is working on another activity and will follow up with a report when it materializes.
Reunion preliminaries are complete but there are some loose ends. We need a master of ceremonies. This individual could be from any of the 1957 classes. If you have experience as an MC and would like to volunteer, we'll submit your name to the three-class reunion committee. We also need a volunteer to handle registrations. This entails two main functions - depositing the money and submitting a weekly update of registrations to the committee. It's an important job but one that doesn't take a great deal of time. The committee will provide a registration form as soon as the banquet costs and miscellaneous administrative costs are determined. The Doubletree needs an attendance estimate before setting a price. That will be developed soon and we'll get the registration form to you as soon as the total costs are determined.
The 12 April date for making hotel reservations is invalid. The Doubletree now estimates the reservation system will be ready the first week of May. I'm looking forward to, and hoping for, a large turnout next April. In the OCS spirit,
Jack

Well the really big news is the 50th reunion for the classes that graduated in 1957. Jack has reported on what is happening in the planning stages. And, even though the job market may not be the best, we are recruiting. We need someone to take on that registration job. The pay may be low but just think of all the fun you'll have taking in those registration fees. Dennis Goudy knows about these duties and will probably relate his experiences in a short telephone call. Oh yes, there is need for a bartender in San Antonio. The pay is the same and Frank Walls can give advice on his experiences in Nevada with previous reunions. Who are the two that are going to step forward???
A recent article reported that, "Eight of the surviving 16 'Doolittle Tokyo Raiders' gathered at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force for their 64th annual reunion and to remember those who have gone before them."
Surely the OCS class 57C can make a better than 50% showing at their fiftieth reunion. Here is what we have so far regarding attendance. The first group is 22 classmates who have said they plan to attend.
Kenneth and Sylvia Baisden
Charles and Pearl Ballot
Richard and Valerie Edwards
John and Vida Ferris
John and Bernice Fox

And those who may attend but are not sure yet:

That's less than 50% of the class so it is time for everyone to get off dead center. Make the decision now to be there.Dale

Obituaries:
Sadly there were two recent deaths--Thomas E. Gullick on February 27, 2006 and Robert C Sibert on April, 19, 2006. We are thankful for their honorable and faithful service to our nation.Thomas E Gullick
This is a testimonial from Frank Walls: "Tom was an excellent cadet officer and served his nation
well as a superior Commissioned Officer. In OCS we were
close and as the years passed and our paths didn't cross
we lost touch. We regained a touch of that comradeship at
our reunions and at the last one, I realized he wasn't a well
man -- so many things that we should have done and didn't.
I believe this is probably the lament most of us could labor
under as he was deserving of far more than we gave."
Robert C Sibert
The following is an abstract from the Newport News, VA Daily Press:
"Robert C. Sibert was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Hamilton, Ohio, and was the fourth child of Charles and Ethel Sibert. He was a loving husband to his wife of 52 years, Jytte B. Sibert, whom he met and married in Copenhagen, Denmark; and proud father of Denise Youngblood, Scott Sibert, Stacey Freitas and husband Tony, and Kristy McGhee and husband Brian."
Listing Updates:
There are many changes to the class listing. The new information is highlighted with yellow on the listing. You may use this to update your current contact lists.
We have lost contact with nine classmates. Who says that when people reach "senior status" they set their stakes and don't move around like they did while in the USAF? It is frustrating to have a half dozen e-mails "bomb out" or to have snail mail returned as "Attempted-not known" or any of the other reasons for non-delivery.
With e-mail there can be at least two problems. First even though you may discontinue use of a particular server that doesn't mean the server has blocked delivery to their machine. When this happens, any e-mail to the old address just disappears into a big black hole. Also some of us are delinquent in reading incoming e-mail and clearing it from our inboxes. There have been cases when e-mails "bomb out" due to an over full inbox. Please do not let this happen to you.
If anyone has recent contact data on the following please get it to Dale Shipley.
William K Blake, William C Byrd, Wells C Carswell, James E Cone, Boyd L Dailey, Anthony Fuentes, Clarence C Myers Jr., Johan A Walters, or Theodore R Walters
