Luxury Houseboats: Perfect for London?

LONDON : A Great place to Live ....... : And This was the Houseboat Experience
.

... UNTIL NOW ...

A New Concept for Working and Living on water.

.

Rogers Yacht Design were commissioned by Waterspace Plc, a London based property Investment Company, to design a 60ft boat, Optimum 60 which could offer an alternative to land based commercial and residential property. The result was unveiled to the press last week on the eve of The Daily Mail Ideal Home Exhibition at Earls Court in London.

The main theme of the show this year is 'Waterside Living' and the Waterspace stand is the main centre piece having been sponsored by the Daily Mail. The interior of the boat has been designed by celebrity designers Justin & Colin from BBC's 'The Million Pound Property Experiment'.

The final concept offers 1100sq ft of space on two floors and standard accommodation facilities such as air conditioning, telephone, mains power, mains sewage as well as two standard WCs. In addition there is a versatile upper deck/ roof garden which can be used for corporate entertainment during the warmer months or a place to relax.

The second boat off the production line is to be launched at the beginning of April and has been configured as a week-end home/ water ski facility. On the upper deck the owner has chosen to site a hot tub.

Although originally designed as a floating office, through enquiries it has become evident that this unique structure can be easily adapted for floating homes, restaurants and retail outlets amongst other ideas. It is primarily destined for city inland waterways although coastal marinas are also showing a keen interest, says the design company.

Blondecell Limited in Southampton is the appointed licenced builder and are now fully geared up for production.

The standard boat price starts from £249,000 and includes basic services.

The Ideal Home Exhibition is on until April 4, 2004. ...(17 March 2004)

MOORINGS
Moorings are often categorised into 3 different types, Permanent, Residential and Visitors. Permanent and Residential moorings are for your exclusive use only, and will be kept vacant for you until your return, should you decide to go cruising for a few days or even months. Visitor's moorings when vacant are for any boater use, but often have a maximum set time stay limit, maybe 12 hours, or 5 days etc. Visitors mooring may be free of charge are chargeable.

The longer your boat or barge, the more difficult it will be to find a mooring (and to moor it!). Finding a good permanent mooring for a barge is often a problem, especially in and around London and other popular cities. Moorings are generally priced by length, a 60ft mooring in one of London 's popular dockland marinas will cost over £5,000 per year, but reduces to around £3,000 in some of the slightly further out dockland marinas.
