The North Knox Home School Network
This picture is from a "few years back", but let me explain it's significance to our family:
You are looking at the face of a boy who finally understands the Boston Tea Party and the Stamp Act. Notice that he doesn't have a book in his hand, but a pressed "block" of tea with a tax stamp. It was the way they shipped tea back in colonial times, and you had to have a tax stamp; it was required.
He knows that when the colonists of Boston finally had enough of "taxation without representation", all that precious East India tea would end up in the harbor and a message was sent to England: the colonies weren't going to take it anymore.
A great story, but and incomplete one, when seen through the eyes of this particular boy, Gabe. Up to the moment captured in the photo, he wondered aloud about tea bags or tea leaves floating in the harbor, and his lesson would not be complete till he found the answer.
He was so pleased to find the answer at Ramsey House Plantation. There he was able to see that the tea was more like a brick than a bag. Bricks sink. You can almost see the light go on.
That's why I homeschool. I want to see all those moments when he "gets it". So does Daddy; he is standing by his side.
Homeschooling is a wonderful option available to all parents who have the heart, desire and patience to commit to the task. I can't think of a better way to spend my time than to invest in my children's future and character development.
If you are interested in bringing your talents and experiences to a group that focuses on Christian education, frugal curriculum, "thinking outside the box", unit studies and a sense of community, you may want to be part of our North Knox group. Together we can work on enriching our educational experience, supporting each other in our own choices and sharing what we have learned. By pooling our talents, we all benefit.
We provide email announcements of community events, field trips and a monthly support group meeting, which we call The Home Team.
Beginning in 2008, we added our "invitation only" study group, The Think Tank.
If you'd like to be involved, or receive emails about events, please contact the group at CHERDO@aol.com (Cheryl Massey).
