ABOUT US:
New India Village Education and Development Association (NIVEDA) is a registered non profit social welfare organization committed to involve Training, Camps, Campaigns and Awareness Generation Programmes in the field of Child Development, Women Empowerment, Environmental Awareness, Human Rights Education, Drug Awareness Counseling, HIV/AIDS/STI’s and T.B preventive education, Non Formal Education, Development of Disabled Person, RCH Programmes and Vocational Training etc., NIVEDA has been registered under Societies Registration Central Act XXI of 1860, in the year 1989 and earlier this organization was functioned under the name of “New India Youth Association” in a smaller extend. In the year 2000, this organization name was changed and now functioning under the name of New India Village Education and Development Association in a broader range. Since its inception, NIVEDA has collectively functioned above said activities for the welfare poor masses. Therefore, we have presented the role of NIVEDA to your kind view
AREA OF OPERATION
The area of operation of this association is Karaikal Region of Union Territory of Pondicherry. We have presented here a brief note of Karaikal.
Karaikal is the second largest region of Union Territory of Pondicherry. The total population is 1.71 lakhs nearly according to the census of 2001. It has 05 Commune Panchayats and 01 Municipality. It is situated at east coast of Bay of Bengal.

Area = 161 sq.kms.
Density = 1060 per sq. kms.
Block = 01 No.
Town = 01 No.
POPULATION DATA:
Total Population = 1.71 lakhs
Urban Population = 0.74 lakhs
Rural Population = 0.97 Lakhs
Total No. of Males = 0.85 lakhs
Total No. of Females = 0.86 lakhs
Sex Ratio = 1023 per ’000 males

NIVEDA has been adopted the above 06 communes and rendering services to the neglected people belongs to the above commune.
BOARD OFMANAGEMENT
The Governing Body and General Body manage the activities of this society. The Governing Body consists of 07 members. They are all well qualified and professionally trained in the field of social development. The General Body consists of 08 members and they supported the activities of Governing Body Members. The Governing Body Members are as follows:

ACTIVITIES:
NIVEDA has been involving various activities for the total uplift of the poor and disadvantaged group of people. The following are the some of the activities of this society.
1. SOCIO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR THE DISABLED PERSONS:
In order to ameliorate the socio economic status of the disabled person, NIVEDA has been establishing Self Help Groups (SHG) among the disabled persons. The groups are trained and motivated to involve the activities of group savings and we have taking steps to provide life insurance coverage to all SHG disabled members under the Life Insurance Corporation of India.
2. WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME:
NIVEDA has been involving women activity through awareness, training camps. The training and awareness generation programmes are conducted among the women self help group members. The women are educated in the field of Human Rights, Legal Literacy, Skill Training, Reproductive Health awareness etc., NIVEDA has also conducted women empowerment campaigns through drama and street theatres with the financial assistance of Directorate of Art and Culture Department, Government of Pondicherry.
3. HIV/AIDS/STI”s & T.B AWARENESS PROGRAMME:
NIVEDA has concentrated Health Education Awareness Campaign. Now a day, the problem of spreading HIV/AIDS/STI’s and T.B in a greater extends. In order to educate the High Risk Groups, NIVEDA has conducted HIV/AIDS/STI’s Preventive Education Programmes. The T.B. infected persons are identified through Home visits/Survey and the infected persons are referred to Medical Institutions for further course of treatments.
4. AWARENESS GENERATION PROGRAMME:
NIVEDA has also organized awareness generation programme in various villages in Karaikal region. The disadvantaged groups of people are being educated for the awareness in the field of Education/Child Development/Effects of Drugs and Alcohols/Environmental Degradation/Abolition of Child Labour/Family Planning etc.

4. Education Centre to Poor and Orphanage students

AN APPEAL
NIVEDA has been rendering services to the neglected and disadvantaged groups of people for the past 15 years. We have conducted programmes and rendering services through donations and contributions from the public/philanthropist. Now, we have planned to extend our activities in a greater level. Hence, the Donor Agencies/Foundations/Associations/Corporate Bodies/Charitable Trusts/Individuals are requested to give small grants to our organization for the uplift the poor/neglected group of people.
