Pavol and Peter Hochschorner, the Slovakian twins and golden olympic champions of 2000, had no trouble at all taking the lead in both runs, while British Smith and Bowman managed to rank second, mostly because of their faultless first run. In the third place are the Czech crew of Volf and Stepanek.

10 of the 12 crews were qualified for the semifinals tomorrow, leaving the Australian team out!

In men's K1, British Cambell Walsh had the fastest run in his first attempt but at the end of the day ranked second, after Swiss Michael Kurt. In the third place is the 2000 gold medalist Thomas Schmidt of Germany.
Fabien Lefevre (FRA), the winner of the world champion in Athens, 4 months ago, is another strong paddler aiming the medals.

Five paddlers, including Alex Dimitriou (GRE) didn't make it to the semifinals tomorrow.
