Nicholas Alexandrovich Romanov II
Nicholas II was the last Tsar of Russia. He was born on May 18, 1868 and he had 4 siblings (two brothers Michael and George and two sisters Olga and Xenia). His father was Alexander III and he came to power when Nicholas was only 13 (Nicholas' grandfather, Alexander II, was assassinated). When Nicholas was 16, he met a pretty 12-year-old girl named Alix of Hesse-Darmstadt (she would change her name to Alexandra when she converted to Russian Orthodoxy in order to marry Nicholas). Ten years later, they would marry and their wedding would follow the death of Nicholas' father. They had 5 children together: Olga, Tatiana, Marie, Anastasia, and Alexei. Aside from family life, Nicholas was bored by politics and government. He would much rather spend time with his wife and children than sit at an office all day. He liked to play tennis, swim, hunt, etc. He also liked to attend balls (his wife hated them). Nicholas died at the age of 50 when he and his family were assassinated in a basement by Lenin's Bolshiveks. NOTE: I got the picture(s) from Edvard Radzinsky's book, "The Last Tsar: The Life and Death of Nicholas II."
