Call Jesus Christ God
Look for Scriptures that suggest that Jesus Christ is God.
Thomas is a unique example of this practice. ‘“Jesus said to Thomas: “Put your finger here and look at my hands. Put your hand into my side. Stop doubting and believe!” Thomas answered: “My Lord and my God.”’ (John 20:27, 28) Thomas called Jesus Christ God. Does that prove that he is God? Absolutely not!
Thomas was excited and he simply blurted out an unsubstantiated declaration. If you suddenly saw a recently departed member of your family stand in front of you what would you say? You might call out, “Oh my God, it’s you! I thought you were dead!” No attempt is being made to trivialize this. However, when you read the entire context of the Bible you see that Jesus Christ is not God and that Thomas did not speak in harmony with the context.
A short time before Jesus presented himself to Thomas, Jesus met with Mary and told her at John 20:17, “Do not touch me for I am not yet ascended to the Father. Go to my brothers, and say to them, I ascend to my Father and you’re Father, and my God and your God.” (Revelation 3:12) Did you understand that? Does that make sense to you? Jesus called God his God. And equally important is the fact that Mary told the disciples what Jesus said to her. Notice the next verse, ‘Mary Magdalene went to tell the disciples: “I have seen the Lord! He said these things to me.”’ (John 20:18)
Who was the apostle Thomas? Thomas, also known as Didymous, was an impetuous individual who sometimes expressed doubt. He was certainly not a reliable authority on the true identity of Jesus Christ. While he is mentioned in the four Gospels, very little is known about Thomas. (Matthew 10:3) (Mark 3:18) (Luke 6:15) (John 11:11; 14:2-6) One sure thing we all know about Thomas is that his word is not as reliable as God’s Word.
God called Jesus Christ His Son! (Luke 3:22) (Matthew 17:5) If Jesus Christ were God, the Almighty God would have called him “God”! Listen to the voice of God as he spoke to His Son, Jesus Christ, at the time of his baptism: And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, "Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. “ (Luke 3:22) (KJV)
PUNCTUATION MARKS NOT DIVINELY INSPIRED: Included in the "Call Jesus God" Technique is the practice of placing the punctuation marks so they will infer or suggest the Trinity. The writers of the origional Greek Scriptures did not use punctuation marks. There is no evidence that the placement of punctuation marks is divinely inspired. Translators insert punctuation where they think it should be. Look closely at the greeting Peter wrote in his second letter.
2 Peter 1:1.
(NIV) The New International Version wants you to think Jesus Christ is both God and Savior when it says: “through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.”
(NASB) The New American Standard Bible states: “by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ” Stated this way it sounds as if our God and Savior is Jesus Christ.
(NLT) The New Living Translation blatantly declares: “faith given to us by Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, who makes us right with God.” This is an obvious attempt to incert the idea that Jesus Christ is God.
(NSB) Now contrast this with the New Simplified Bible: “in the righteousness of our God, and of our Savior Jesus Christ.” Do you see the difference? They are presented as two different spirit beings by using the conective “and.”
(WESTCOTT-HORT 1881) Now read 2 Peter 1:1 from the origional Greek: “Theo's ego kai soter Iesous Christos.” “God of us and of Savior Jesus Anointed.” The origional text seperates the two with the word “and.” It says, “God and Savior Jesus Christ!” Some Trinitarians accuse true believers of adding the word “and.” But it is there! And even if it was not there the context of the Bible demands it. This verse could be interpreted as meaning Jesus is our God and Savior or it could be understood to mean that they are separate beings. You decide. But be sure to use the context of the entire Bible to help you with this vital spiritual decision.
