A Christmas Carol--version 1

If I get a home by Christmas can I decorate a tree?
I’ve never had a tree that was my own.
I’ve always spent my Christmas with other kids like me,
In a house where children live that have no home.
I don’t need gifts for Christmas, but a hug would be okay.
I don’t need to sit on Santa Clause’s knee.
But if there really is a Santa, here’s what I’d like on Christmas day;
I’d really like to decorate a tree.
There was a child named Jesus who was born on Christmas day.
I have heard that he was special just like me.
I have heard his lovely stories, the kind words he had to say.
They say he was born to decorate a tree.
I would like to be like Jesus, to do what he would do,
See what he saw and be what he would be.
So don’t give me toys for Christmas, I just want to be like Him.
For Christmas let me decorate a tree.
