But Now
But Now

I used to think a poem had to rhyme,
But now I know a lot of other kinds.
I always thought most people were like me,
But I never realized that couldn't be.
I once fell in love with Mary Fay,
But now I love her sister Linda Rae.
If I could ever travel back in time,
I would write a lot of poems that don't rhyme.
I never rode a spaceship to the moon,
But I might say that I did so in a poem.
I can't create a tree or make a flower,
But I can write a song and feel its power.
I won't listen to politics or preachers,
But I might try harder to learn from my teachers.
I used to have so many things to do,
But now I prefer time I spend with you.
