A Friend
A Friend

There's a friend kids have
When they play all alone,
Though no one can see him
Who’s already grown.
He plays in the schoolyard;
He lives down the street.
He’s never around
For your parents to meet.
When something bad happens
He takes all the blame.
He’s that awful bad boy
Who hasn’t a name.
In stories you tell
He your dastardly foe;
Who gets you in trouble
Wherever you go.
When your mom has to ask
Where your socks can be found,
He’s the one who has scattered
Your clothes all around.
But some day you’ll grow up
And your friend has to leave,
When you’ll learn that your parents
No longer believe.
