Greetings, everyone!
College presents us with an exciting yet turbulent social/intellectual smorgasbord. How about seasoning your school life with spiritual nourishment?
Here are the upcoming Newman activities plained for the 2000-2001 academic year. All Catholic students at UIS and LincolnLand Community College are invited; of course, if you are not Catholic but interested, you are more than welcome as well!
SHARE THE WORD BIBLE STUDY will be held in the UIS Housing Commons at 8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Fall Semester 2000 dates are 9/14; 9/28; 10/12 ; 10/26 and 11/9. Share the Word will then continue for Spring 2001 on 2/8; 2/22 ; 3/8; 3/22; 4/12 and 4/26.

Friday-Sunday, 8/4-6/00--Let's start the school year right by going on a KOINONIA RETREAT WEEKEND! Koinonia is a fun, noisy, and deeply meaningful experience in Christian Community. Email Mike or Dave for more information and an application.
Wednesday, 9/20/00--SEE YOU AT THE POLE DAY. Yes, it's at 7 a.m., but it's well worth it. Gather around the LincolnLand Community College flagpole to pray for your schools and a successful academic year.
Thursday, 10/12/00--COLUMBUS DAY MASS AND POTLUCK. This special Share the Word will begin at 5:30. Please let Mike or Dave (at phone numbers below) know what potluck dish you are bringing to share.
Wednesday, 11/1/00--ALL SAINTS' DAY MASS in the UIS Studio Theater at 12 noon. Father Kevin Laughery will preside. Let's get together in the cafeteria for lunch and conversation afterwards! HOW TO GET THERE: Park in C Lot or D Lot; enter Public Afrfairs Center ground floor from north "teardrop" entrance. Turn right at the switchboard, past the elevators, then left down a long hall to the Studio Theatre (on right in a "sunken" recess).

Saturday, 9/16/00--Come to a BARBEQUE at the Chatham Wildlife Sanctuary at 1 p.m. Newman Club will furnish all the essentials, but please feel free to bring a drink or dessert!
Saturday, 11/25/00--AFFLUENZA PARTY. Credit cards and Christmas sales under your skin? Commercialism got you down? You don't have to live like the Joneses say you have to. Watch the PBS documentary "Affluenza." Raise your consciousness about how spoiled and unhappy of a society we are--and how you can cultivate simplicity and peace into your life! TIME & PLACE TBD

Wednesday, 2/28/01--ASH WEDNESDAY MASS, UIS Studio Theater. Father Kevin Laughery will preside. Join us for lunch and conversation in the UIS cafeteria afterward!

We're so used to meeting on Thursdays that we can't wait for the real Mardi Gras to get ready for Lent. So come to our second annual FAT TUESDAY ON THURSDAY PARTY at the UIS Housing Commons, 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2001! Bring some favorite music, some favorite food, even dress up in costume--live a little! Share with the group what Lent means to you this year. Or just come to mellow out.
Saturday, 3/17/01 CATHOLIC FLICK NIGHT--Lent does not necessarily mean staying in a cell for a full 40 days. It's necessary at least once to go out and see a movie. So come (TIME AND PLACE TO BE ANNOUNCED), bring some popcorn and a smile! We promise some wholesome Christian entertainment.
Saturday, 4/21/01--TREK THE TRAIL! Lost Bridge Trail, that is. We'll start out from the IDOT (South Dirksen Parkway) entrance at 1 pm. Several of us plan to bike the entire ten miles. You can also bring your Rollerblades or jogging shoes, or let your dog take you for a run!
