Vegeta's family
Trunks
Trunks is the son of Vegeta. He first arrives in the DBZ series in the Frieza saga. He is a young teen at his arrival and wields a very powerful sword. Trunks explians to the Z-Warriors that he is from the future and originally came back to the past to heal Goku of his heart condition and stop the androids from destroying the Earth. Later in the series, Chibi(Little) Trunks is finally born. After the Androids were destroyed, Marai(Future) Trunks returns to the future.
Near the climax of the series, we see Trunks as a young kid. He trains with Goten and his father, Vegeta. Trunks has a strong will to fight, and is set to be just as strong as his father. He and Goten become very best buddies and are always hanging together.
When fighting against Majin-Buu, Trunks learned the "Fusion Dance" along with Goten to become the powerful Gotenks. Though Trunks is very outgoing, he is also very Naive as a kid thus always winding up in trouble. At the end of the DBZ series, Trunks becomes the teen he was earlier as Future Trunks. Also, if anybody knows what kind of sword Trunks has, Please tell me at my e-mail address.
Prince Vegeta
Even though he is evil at heart, Vegeta is perhaps one of the most strong-willed charecters in the series. Like Goku, he is extremely industrious, constantly striving to be better, but different purposes drove Vegeta's spirit. Goku fought to defend the lives of others and to challenge his limitations while Vegeta fought to sataite his bloodthirsty appetite and die hard pride, which is unwilling to accept defeat. This gradually changes throughout the series.
The primary driver of his will is Goku. Vegeta's defeat in the first encounter with Goku and his unwilling ness to accept Goku being more powerful had constantly fuelled his strong will to continue to train himself. After seeing Goku go Super Saiyan and defeating Frieza, he grows more jealous of Goku's achievements and immersed himself to extensive training. After much sweat and frustration, he finnaly became Super Saiyan. He only enjoyed a fleeting moment of pride in destoying #20(twenty) , before being defeated by #18(eighteen).
Vegeta's first catharsis occured during Gohon's battle with Cell. Because of his rash decision to attack Cell when he did not have the power to, had caused Gohon's arm to be seriously injured when Gohon saved his life. Not only was he not even close to Cell's ability, but also served as a hinderance to Gohon. That was the first time Vegeta accepted his incappabilities by making an apology to Gohon.
By the time Majin-Buu appeared, what used to be a cold-hearted Vegeta changed. Right before he procedded to sacrifice his life in an attempt to destroy Buu, he told Trunks that he cared about him and how he feltbad about giving Trunks much less attention then Trunks deserved.
During Goku's final battle with Majin-Buu, Vegeta goes through a complete catharsis. He realized that Goku's pure and kind heart gave him the power that Vegeta never had. He finally realizes that good ultimently prevails.
Bulma
Bulma appeared at the very beggining of Dragon Ball. She ran into Goku at the start of the series. Bulma has since then been in alliance with Goku in search for the Dragon Balls. Later, in DBZ, we find that Bulma's father, Dr. Briefs, is in charge of the Capsule Corporation, with his daughter as an assistant.
Bulma, like Chi-Chi, adds some comic relief to the series. In the Frieza saga, when she goes along with Krillin and Gohon in search of the Namek Dragon Balls, we always find her trying to be in charge and bossy; however, when something bad happens, she constantly freaks out. As the series of DBZ progresses, you will find that Bulma goes through many hair changes. She also becomes head of the Capsule Corp. and matures a bit.
Early in the Cell Saga, we find out that Bulma slept with Vegeta and had a boy named Trunks. Through the Cell series, she took care of Trunks; and in the Buu series, Trunks gets older and gives him a little more freedom.
Goku's family
Goku
He's the main charecter for most of the series(Gohon "takes over" the series when his father dies the second time). He starts the show as a young and innocent child with black, spiky hair, a strange monkey tail, and an expanding stick(nyoibo).
Incredibly strong for his age(which he claims to be fourteen but later we find out that he can't count), he has one of the Dragon Balls which he refers to as his grandfather(it was the only thing that his grandfather left before dying, so he considers it to posses his soul). One day while Goku is carrying home his lunch(a giant fish that he killed with one kick) literally bumps into Bulma. After a brief discussion, and Bulma explaining the power that lies in the Dragon Ball, both leave in search of the other six balls. It is in this way that the series of adventures begin. Soon after, both meet Kamessenin who gives him his first magic cloud(he frequently has it destroyed, but later we find out that there's a bunch of them), also known as Kintoun.
After some 17 (seventeen) episodes, Goku has had many adventures and friends and is already an adult, married with Chi-Chi and has a child named Gohon(named after his grandfather). On the TV series the name is changed to Dragon Ball-Z. By this time with the coming of Raditz(Goku's older brother), we find out that Goku isn,t human. He was only found by his grandfather(Son Gohon his real grandfather, only an adopted one)inside a space capsule; Goku(which isn't his actual name either, it's Kakarot)had been sent 6to earth in order to conquer it, but due to a big fall he lost his memory, thus becoming the innocent boy we meet at the begging of the series; we are told that Goku is really a Saiyan from the planet Vegeta where the Saiyans live(and meaning he one of the only four remainig in the universe).
Later, during the Frieza Saga, Goku finds out that he can turn into a Super Saiyanwhen he gets really pissed off(this occurs the first time when Frieza, one of the most dangerous enemies during the series, kills Krillin[Goku's best friend], during the quest for the Nameccian Dragon Balls). This transformation greatly increases Goku's powerand gives him the physical transformations that follow: his hair goes blonde and more spiky, his eyes turn green, and his face linear with his entire body surrounded by an aura; afterwards, he finds that he can go into a Super Saiyan level 2(two), 3(three), and 4(four)stages, which means an increase in all the charecteristics of the first stage.
Chi-Chi
Chi-Chi is the wife of Goku. She first makes her appearance in the original Dragon Ball seriesas sahe goes along Goku and Bulma in search of the Dragon Balls. In Dragon Ball-Z, her purpose focusses on making her son, Gohon, become a scholar in school. Since Goku wants Gohon to train to become a warrior, there are many arguments that take place throughout the series. Later in the series where Gohon is in high school and Goten appears, Chi-Chi gets very worried as Goten is always out fighting.
Chi-Chi is an interesting charecter. Though she doesn't appear to often, when she does appear, the scene is usually some kind of comic event. Mainly thoughout the series she gets very worried when she hears that Gohon and/or Goten are in trouble and usually puts on this hilarious scene running rampent through the Kame House(a place where all the good guys hang out)then fainting. She is known to snap at any occasion, resulting in the wierdest marriage that anyone has ever seen.
Gohon
He is the first child of Goku. Named after Goku's adopted grandfather, his tremendous talent and power was readily apparentin his childhood. In the battle against Raditz(Goku's brother and his uncle), Gohon's horrifying power sustainly injured him, assisting both Goku and Piccolo.
As Piccolo said, he was too pampered by his parents in the early ages by his parents to realize his talents. Piccolo decided to start training himby leaving him on an island for 6(six)months of survival training before teaching him anything at all. After one year of training, Gohon became a much independent and strong in charecter.
Even though Gohon became more independent, he still lacked the kind of confidence that his father had, which was evident when he fled from where he wasupposed to attack Nappa in the first battle against the Saiyans. His lack of confidence persistedeven after he became the most powerful warrior (Super Gohon) in the epic battle against Cell. During the "Kamehameha" final confrontion between the two of them, he was about to give up the battle. During that time, his father had more confidence in him than in himself as Goku motivated Gohon to unleash his full potential to completely destroy Cell.
Because his mother had always wanted him to be a scholar, Gohon has a dilemma between fighting and studying, even though he is equally assiduous in both. Because of the constant invasion of "evil," Gohon focused on fighting; however, he finally got the oppurtunity to become a scholar after Buu was defeated and realized his mother's wishes.
Goten
Goten is Goku's second child. Unlike Gohon, Chi-Chi does not force him to do well academically. But he is too powerful, because at the early age of 7(seven), Goten is naturally able to go Super Saiyan while training with Chi-Chi. The only disadvantage that Goten has is never able to improve upon his powers and show his full potential, therefor he is not able to surpass Super Saiyan Level 1(one). Not much changes as he grows older.
