Rastafari(anism) is not only a "religion" but a way of life wich was founded in the thirties by a group of Garveyites, followers of Marcus Garvey's "back to Africa" theory (i.e. "Marcus Garvey biography") ,in Jamaica.It is referred to as some as a mix of the purest forms of christianity and judaism, wich is somewhat evident in its philosiphy. We Believe H.I.M. Haile Selassie I, Lion of the conquering tribe of judah, is an avatar (God on earth in human form)the name rastafari comes from Haile sellasie's name before he became king, Ras ,meaning Prince,and Tafari Makonnen,being his name.
