RCR and Hornaday to Part Ways at Season’s End
WELCOME, N.C. (Sept. 22, 2004) -- Ron Hornaday will complete the 2004 NASCAR Busch Series season behind the wheel of the No. 2 ACDelco Chevrolet but will not be resignedby Richard Childress Racing (RCR) for the 2005 season.
“We had two great years with Ron and I wish him the best in the future,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “We talked about next season and beyond and felt it was in our best interests to make this announcement now to give
him the best chance possible to catch on with another team.”
Hornaday, a two-time NASCAR Truck Series champion (1996, ’98), has earned two victories (Nazareth Speedway, 5/18/03; The Milwaukee Mile, 6/24/04) and 28 top-10 finishes in 60 Busch Series starts for RCR.
“Racing at this level is a big business,” said Hornaday. “I understand what RCR has to do to enhance its NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series efforts. We’ve had a pretty good run together and the friendships will still go on but business is business.”
The Palmdale, Calif., native finished third in last year’s Busch Series driver point standings and is currently sixth in this year’s chase for the title.
"Ron Hornaday is not only a winner on the track, but a true ambassador for ACDelco", said Sue Seaglund, manager, event marketing for GM Service and Parts Operations. "Ron is the definition of what ACDelco considers a 'Real Car Guy'. We wish him the best of luck in
his future endeavors and thank him for the two fantastic years he represented ACDelco, both on and off the track."
The driver of the No. 2 ACDelco Chevrolet for 2005 will be named before season’s end.

RCR Puts Gordon on Probation
Press Conference Scheduled for Friday at Dover
WELCOME, N.C. (Sept. 22, 2004) -- Robby Gordon has been placed on probation by Richard Childress Racing (RCR) for the remainder of the 2004 NASCAR Cup Series season.
“Many athletes have made mistakes in their careers and would take back the negative things they’ve said or done if they could,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “As a result of his actions last weekend in New Hampshire, I have placed Robby on probation for the rest of the season.
“I would like to apologize to all of the fans, the media, and the teams. I also would like to publicly apologize to Cingular Wireless for being placed in this situation. If there is one positive, I think this can make Robby understand that there is more to racing than just
being aggressive. In this sport today, one action can affect many people’s lives on the track and beyond it, as well.”
Gordon will conduct a press conference at 8:30 a.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 24, in the infield media center at Dover International Speedway.

Sauter Partners with BREWCO and RCR for 2004
Johnny Sauter will spend the 2004 season racing for two of motorsport's most prestigious crowns, the NASCAR Busch Series Championship and the coveted Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year.
In his Busch Series efforts, Johnny will pilot the # 27 KLEENEX®/SCOTT® Products Chevrolet, fielded out of the BREWCO Motorsports stable. Sauter will drive Richard Childress Racing's # 30 AOL Chevrolet for the Nextel Cup events. Sauter is thrilled
about the possibilities that lie ahead. "It's not very often that anyone gets a chance to get behind the wheel of two awesome rides," said Sauter. "Both of these teams have top notch equipment and are
championship caliber organizations. Both RCR and Brewco have what it takes to win a lot of races. I think that we're completely capable of winning the Busch Series Championship, and taking home Rookie of the Year in (Nextel) Cup. I can't wait for next season to start."
Johnny will race fulltime in each Series during his 2004 campaign. Although pulling a season long double-duty is an exhausting challenge, it's a task that Sauter is up for. "No doubt, running the
double-duty is going to be tough, but it's a lot easier when you're successful, and I think that we're going to do well in both Series," said Sauter. "When I have a car that I know is going to run great in the race, all I can think about is hopping in the seat and
going racing. I don't care how many laps I have to run in a day, or how long the weekend seems. If I have a car that is going to be
competitive, I want to race in it. Both teams that I'll be racing with field such awesome cars, so I'll be anxious to compete in both Series'
Todd Wilkerson, general manager for BREWCO, has high expectations for next season. "Johnny obviously has a great relationship established with RCR," said Wilkerson. He's already gelled with their organization and I think that it will be big help to our team. If he's running well on the (Nextel) Cup side, that can only benefit our program, and vice-versa. I think us and RCR will have a lot that we can contribute to each other. That should speed both of us up on the track. Johnny's going to get a lot more seat time next year and a lot more experience by doing the double-duty. That will definitely help shorten his learning curve. I expect to see him do well in both cars next season."
Sauter's endeavors will give BREWCO and RCR an opportunity to share race day information between the two teams, an opportunity that Sauter is confident can only help both organizations. "Both teams are
committed to helping each other, said Sauter. "I think both teams will only be able to benefit from it. Each organization is great all by itself, but when the two of them start helping each other out with race information, watch out!"

JOHNNY SAUTER TO DRIVE No. 30 AOL
CHEVROLET IN 2004
Kevin Hamlin named Rookie’s Crew Chief
NEW YORK, NY – (December 4, 2003) -- NASCAR team owner Richard
Childress announced today Johnny Sauter will drive the No. 30 AOL Chevrolet for the 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series season and will compete for the 2004 Rookie of the Year Award.
Sauter, 25, helped Childress claim the 2003 Busch Series Owner’s
Championship as part of a two-driver effort in the No. 21 PayDay Chevrolet with fellow Richard Childress Racing (RCR) driver Kevin Harvick. He also finished eighth in the 2003 Busch Series driver’s points. The Necedah, Wis., native first competed in the NASCAR Busch Series with RCR in 2001 on a limited basis while also claiming the
American Speed Association championship and rookie of the year award with a seriesrecord 10 wins. He moved into the No. 2 ACDelco Chevrolet in 2002 where he claimed his first Busch Series victory and finished 15th in the point standings.
“Johnny Sauter has been a big part of RCR’s success the last few seasons,” said Childress. “The move to the Nextel Cup is the next step in his promising career, so I wanted to make sure that step was taken with us. Johnny is the type of driver that fits the RCR mold so I know he’ll do a great job in the AOL Chevrolet.”
“Driving for RCR and AOL in the Nextel Cup Series is just an unbelievable opportunity for me, really a dream come true,” said Sauter. “RCR has been my home since Richard took the chance a few years back and put me in that Busch car. There isn’t another team I would want to race for in my rookie year.”
Childress also announced Kevin Hamlin will become Sauter’s crew chief, moving to the No. 30 AOL team from the No. 31 Cingular Wireless team. Hamlin led Robby Gordon to a 16th-place finish in the 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup point standings, claiming both road course wins. Since joining RCR in 1997, Hamlin has nine Winston Cup victories, claiming wins with every driver with which he has worked.
“Kevin Hamlin has the experience of working with almost every driver we’ve ever had here at RCR, taking each one of them to victory lane”, added Childress. “He led both Mike Skinner and Kevin Harvick to the Winston Cup Rookie of the Year Awards, so I know he has the capability to help Johnny become successful. I am confident he can
lead Johnny and the AOL team to a very successful 2004 season in the Nextel Cup series.”
Hamlin will bring his entire 2003 No. 31 crew in making the move to join Sauter on the 2004 No. 30 AOL team.
“I am looking forward to working with Johnny and claiming another Rookie of the Year award for RCR,” said Hamlin. “I see him following the trend of having a strong rookie season and competing for wins. We’ll have a strong, experienced crew coupled with a hard charging rookie, so I am excited about the 2004 season.”
"We're delighted that a promising young driver like Johnny Sauter will be in the seat of the #30 AOL Chevrolet. Pairing Johnny with an experienced crew chief like Kevin Hamlin will allow the AOL team to win races and aggressively compete for the Rookie of the Year Award in 2004," said Richard Taylor, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing for America Online. "Our partnership with NASCAR is a great fit with our AOL for Broadband high-speed offerings, and we look forward to continuing that partnership with this new team next season."
