FREE THE BEARS!!!
Last summer my family and I spent a few days in The Smokie Mountains. We had a great time, and my little sister was very anxious to see a real bear. We were traveling down the main road and saw a gift shop called "The 3 Bears Gift Shop" that mentioned having "Live Bears." My little sister begged my dad to stop, so we did.
It was awful! My mom and I even cried. The bears were all in hard, concrete cages. They were laying in their own waste, and none of them (there were 4) were active. They just laid there. Birds were flying around eating the apple pieces that were thrown at them. You had to pay to "feed" them - and some teenagers were taking the apples and trying to hit the bears heads as hard as they could (I'd like to see them do this if the bears weren't caged up!!). People were pointing and laughing at how unhappy they looked. My sister kept asking why the bears weren't acting "like the bears we see on t.v." My mom said it was because they were in a cage and were sad and should not be there.
We left right away.
I did some internet searches and found that this gift shop (Called "The 3 Bears Gift Shop") had several violations for the keeping of the bears.
I just want people to know that these bears shouldn't be kept in that unhealthy, unsanitary place. Just as importantly, when you're on vacation and you see a sign that says they have live animals there (bears, alligators, whatever) - DON'T STOP! You only support keeping those animals in a place where they don't belong.
