MW Alumni, Well, it's almost that time of year again...just over a month to go for one of the best events of the year! The 23rd Annual Alumni Race at Bear Mtn. Date-Thanksgiving Saturday-Nov. 26 Time-Noon Place-Bear Mtn. Distance-3 Miles There is no entry fee-just fill out a card and pin it to your shirt The official name is The Bill Markiewicz Rockland Alumni run. The race is open to anyone that has graduated HS from any school. You did not have to run Cross Country or Track in High School to participate...everyone is welcome. As many of you know "Purple Pride" has dominated this race in the team Participation Category-winning 6 of the last 9 years. We peaked in 2000 getting 71 finishers of the 271 entered. Last year we had a total of 34-winning by 1 (see...I always say we don't care how fast...or slow you run..."just finish"). Our women have also been dominant winning 3 titles recently in the traditional top 5 runner scoring. The 1999 team is the best women's team in the history of the event! On the Men's side we haven't won since 1988, but are third all time with 9 top 3 finishes...always a bride's maid....

Congratulations, Harriers, for winning 2004's alumni race team participation honors.

Welcome

After receiving, sending and forwarding numerous notes from fellow Monroe-Woodbury (M-W) Cross-Country and Track alumni, I felt the time was right to create a website dedicated to M-W alumni who had the opportunity to participate in Cross-Country - The Purple Pride - and track and field. And why not? The internet provides a centralized medium to communicate. Living in another part of the country and would like to know if you live by someone who also ran for M-W?, traveling somewhere in the country and want some info on that area? Maybe an M-W alumnus can help you out. Besides sending and receiving Email "over the net", the graphical aspect can be exploited as well. This feature allows for the posting of news articles and pictures.

To make this website work, we, the alumni must use it. To make it worthwhile there should be an exchange of stories, of ideas, a listing of alumni, a listing of some of the top times for both cross-country and track & field ....etc.

As more information and documentation is made available, it will be posted to this website. So, Bookmark this webpage and periodically check back with us for the lastest alumni information.

An added feature is the guestbook. Please add your comments and review what others have shared. Speaking of features, I am planning on creating other URLs for all the past and present M-W Cross-Country and Track&Field Coaches to use to keep alumni informed on their activities. I must add - someone will have to teach Coach Hall how to use a computer. As for updating a website, it really is quite simple.

Each of us has a story or two to share about how our M-W running days shaped their lives. I hope this website will be another medium to share them. This website, as noted above is broken into other links.

I am still seeking old news articles and pictures to post to this site. Jim Mulhare has graciously offered to assist with scanning oversized articles. Please call him to make arrangements at 845 343 3626 or fax 845 343 3639. Check out Jim's website.
