Mushroom Star of the Ground Comet Allegro Ezekiel
THE STAR OF THE GROUND (108)
In the early 70s, John Allegro scandalised the West by proposing that a drugs cult based on the Magic Mushroom Fly agaric lay behind Christianity. His approach was to reduce everything to this source. What is probably more likely is that the Mushroom cult formed part of a whole set of influences which resulted in Christianity.
Another facet just as influential had to do with comets.
Fly agaric and comets have striking affinities - red is a prominent colour for the mushroom cap/comus as it can be for a cometary head/comus. Both red cap and comet head shining sun-like[Rev 1:16] can have a strange, white-flecked appearance (117, 124)
Allegro himself constantly connects Amanita Muscaria with the heavens (108,113). In particular, he highlights its connections with Venus (116). Like Velikovsky, he identifies ancient Venus as our modern planet. The ancients, though, first identified Venus with cometary sightings. It was only with the fading of cometary activity in the 5th century BC that Venus became identified with the bright Evening and Morning Star/planet.
The contribution that comets made to Bible based religion will now be considered. (Where sacred sources are used, various acceptable translations are given. Full references can be found in other research papers) As Allegro argues for the Mushroom, images just as easily applicable to comets constantly crop up. Examples are italicised when not obvious.
We begin with chapter XIII - Star of the Morning - which speaks of expectations of a Messiah called Son of the Star (109, see Matt 13:55 Mk 6:3)
A star will come out of Jacob whilst a comet will rise out of Israel (Numbers 24:17)
This means that on earth, the first representatives of a tribally benevolent major comet and its bright companion are Jacob and his red hairy twin brother Esau [tribes?]. They are founding spiritual leaders of influential ‘mystery’ groups taking the Magic Mushroom.
The name Jacob is identical with James and means the pillar which supports the heavens (121-2, 138). This pillar is also represented on earth by various prominent standing stones.
Jacob’s line culminates in James and Jesus the bright and Morning star (Rev 22:16)
Jesus was a carpenter(103). The symbol for a carpenter[whorl on tip of rod] is akin to a tailed comet.
The name of the older twin Esau means ‘raised canopy’. He was born all red, ‘all his body like a hairy cloak’ [Gen 25:25] (120-1)
Esau’s line reaches its zenith in John the Baptist, Jesus’ bright forerunner. John dyed (Baptised) people in red using cone/hemisphere shaped(121) containers and wore the hair cloth of the double cone [Camel humps]. (122)
The cone refers to the comus of the comet and mushroom which can have the same shape.
Red/purple dye is called Phoenix after the mighty man which held up the sky (121-2, 275-6) see comet sheep.
John came from Galilee?123. The name means ‘the waving reed with 2 cones’ (116)
John and Jesus are like the sacred mushroom and comets:
‘They are glorious in their heavenly conception and fulfilment, and yet so short-lived’ (109) . They are cut off in their prime to serve their people:
After an entrancing dance, John’s severed head ended up on a tray shaped like a cone (123).
Jesus met his end on the cross (108), a symbol of both comets and Fly agaric.
Enemy leaders are compared to disintegrating fallen comets:
Isaiah (14:12-15) mocks the Babylonian king: You are like the Shining One, Lucifer, the Morning star. This Son of the Dawn ascended to heaven above the stars of God. It set its place there on high above the mount of Assembly in the far north. Just as suddenly, it fell from heaven! It was brought down to the depths of the pit.
In a similar fashion, Ezekiel (28:12-19) rails against the Prince of Tyre:
You sprang into perfect being on Zion, the heavenly holy mountain of God. Your protector was the Guardian of Eden, the colossal Cherub with the bright revolving sword.
You were entirely beautiful, glittering and gleaming in your brightness. It was as if you were covered with a haze of precious spangles and stones. Within we could see you were covered with golden holes as you jingled with the sound of pipes and timbrels. You walked proudly among the stars and stones which flashed with fire.
Suddenly, fire blasted you from God’s heavenly sanctuary. You glowed from within and burst apart as the fire devoured you. This sullied the heavenly places of blazing gems amongst which you had walked.
As you became ashes, the colossal Cherub threw you down to earth. Your position amongst the stars was destroyed. Kings and your followers were appalled at your dreadful end.
The Fly Agaric was seen as Manna/Heavenly Food produced in some way by the Venus comet.
Both the Mushroom and comets are connected symbolically with hairy wool and fleece. The Revelations [1:10-16] ‘son of Man’ had head and hair as white as white wool, white as snow..his face was like the sun shining in full strength (124)
In one aspect this is to explain such phenomena as angel’s hair, manna and the profusion of fungi which appear after cometary activity.
In another sense, stories involving such motifs as the Golden Fleece reflect cometary phenomena. The fleece actually resembled impure red gold as it flew through the sky to come to rest guarded night and day by a dragon (118-9). The fleece disappeared when the dragon calmed. The final phenomena seen was a consuming inextinguishable fire(118-9).
The bearer of the Fleece is the Ram, another cometary symbol. The word Ram means ‘hair dyed red’ (119). This appearance is a property of comets, wild sheep and the magic Mushroom.
The Greeks called certain wild sheep comets [Latin ERINITAS] as they had a blood-red shock of what looked like shaggy hair on their top (121, 276).
This connection between comets, sheep and the mushroom manifested in the magically protective red daub or red cap put on the head of Hebrew ewes (121)
The red of comets and Fly Agaric appears in the glowing coal of Encounter 3 and the eyes of ‘visitors’
The cometary and mushroom property of incandescent glowing spots against red is evident throughout the Bible. In research, look out for connections with red & thorny brambles, a club, fiery red, flame, fist, flecks, freckles, frog, glowing-topped penis, glowing stones, leprosy, pestle, red head, sparks, rubbing, scab, scar, scintillate, spark, spots, sprinkling, tadpole, toad, torch (281).
