Megan's Critter Page
My name is Megan, I live in the Chicago land area and have a few pets and would like to share them with you. I have 3 dogs a Rottweiler named Mocha, a Chihuahua named Sweet Pea, and a Pit bull named Dosha, a cat named Munchkin and 2 fish. I also have 9 hamsters; 4 Syrians named Juju B, Walter, Sampson, and Raisin and 5 Campbell Dwarf hamsters Tom, Angel, Jack and Jake, and Laverne. 2 baby turtles named Franklin Bob Turtle and Ninja Turtle as well as a frog named Frogger. I also have 18 rats named Honey, Lilah, Ranie, Cheyenne, Paisley, Blake, Deana, Faith, Joplin, Amadeus, Brently, Cupcake, Jerzey, Ben, Jerry, Einstein, Bandit, and MishMosh.
Update 3/27/05 I have added pictures of my animals in my gallery.
Update 4/13/05 Yesterday the four female dwarf babies went to their new homes and the three boys will be leaving me next week. My one dwarf hamster named Jerry was a diabetic and unfortunately he died last week.
Update 5/01/05 My three baby dwarf boys are still here. I'm not sure when they will be leaving exactly. Hopefully this weekend I will be adopting 2 male rats named Brently and Cupcake. I can't wait they are so cute. And yesterday I made a huge mistake and looked into a cage with baby rats. They were sooooo cute so I had to ask when they could leave and of course I had to reserve one. So in about two weeks I will be going back to pick my new baby up.
Update 6/7/05 It has been a long time since my last update and a lot has happened. My three little dwarf hammies went to their new home and are having tons of fun. Unfortunately one of the little girls I had given away passed away and another one was returned because she seems to be very mean. Ironically my mom named her Angel. The other five all are doing great in their new homes. My oldest hamster Bubbles passed away one night at almost four years old.
On a good note I got some new pets. I adopted three male rats from Wisconsin named Joplin, Amadeus, and Sebastian who are all brothers. The day after I got them (mother’s day) I adopted Brently and Cupcake and a few days later I picked up my little girl from the pet store who I named Cheyenne all six are sweethearts. Even though Cheyenne did get loose for about two days she still is a sweetie. I also got two red eared slider turtles one I named Franklin Bob Turtle and my boyfriend named the other Ninja Turtle. The last addition to my pet family is Frogger my new little frog. Trust me I never would have gotten a frog on my own because of the cricket factor, but my brother gave it to me. So that is what has happened in the last month.
Update 6/16/05 Yesterday another one of my hamsters passed away. It was Madison, Tennessee she died from wet tail. I didn't know she had it or how she got it. Right now I have to keep a close eye on all my other little critters.
Update 6/24/05 Well, I had to leave my nice cool house to go to Petsmart and get flea drops for my cat and dogs. Every time I go I always look at the hamsters and rats as well as all the other critters and birds. This time when I looked into the hammie cages I saw a cage with a hairless hammie!! I had never seen one except on the internet and had always wanted one. Of course I had to buy her even though I think $24.99 is kind of expensive. While I was filling out the form thing I saw a sign that they got a pregnant rat in and she had babies that were now up for adoption. I was just curious so I asked how much they were (I never knew about the adoption thing). The lady took me in the room before telling me that they were free. When I saw them I wanted them all, but knowing my mom was already upset about the hamster I said no to the rats. I told my mom how I didn't give in and get another rat even though they were free. When she heard the word free she decided that she wanted to see them and when she saw them she said maybe we could get one (because I wanted to even out the score and have 5 boys and 5 girls), but there were only 2 girls (there were a lot of boys) and we both felt it would be wrong to get one girl and leave the other all alone so we took both. So instead of leaving with one bag like planed I left with two bags and two boxes.
Update 7/3/05 I just finished putting new pictures in the gallery and organizing it. A few days after the update above I went back to Petsmart to buy a hairless rat I had saw when I picked up the other girls. She is very cute, but skittish too. After I got home I thought I should go get her sister that was with her and the next day that is what I did. So now I have two nekkid rats in my crew.
Update 9/8/05 Somewhere in the beginning of August my younger brother brought a pit bull mix home named Dosha. On the 16th of August I adopted Ben, Jerry, and Jerzey. They are sweet little guys and I am very happy to have them. Ben and Jerry are my first dumbos ever and I was very excited to get them. Jerzey is a patchwork ratty, I’ve never had one of those either and it is very cool to see his “hair styles”. On the 22nd of August Sebastian passed away. I have no idea how he died, he had been fine all day and then all of the sudden he was gone. I have gotten a new cage that the boys will be moving into shortly. I did intros between Joplin and Amadeus and Ben, Jerry, and Jerzey a couple of days ago and all went extremely well. Now I am just waiting for one part for the cage and they will all move in together. The last part of news is that I got two little baby guys today. They are very small and skittish, so I’ll be trying to work with them on that. The older of the two is my first PEW! Ever since I saw the movie Willard I’ve wanted a little PEW rattie.
Update 10/19/05 Well, my little PEW guy passed one night not to long after I got him. Einstein is the little hooded guy I got with the other guy. He is doing good and getting big. So far I haven't been able to get my guys to live together. I will be getting a few more rats and then I am done for some time. I recently got some mice and unfortunantly 1 was pregnant (so far). She had 11 healthy little ones on the 16. Sadly Shirley passed away today. Last weekend I adopted two new ratties names Bandit and MishMosh.
