Summer 01 Schedule
Game 1: Puckers 7 Dirty Old Slobs 5Summary: The Puckers were a little rusty in this one and it showed. They would play hard for 5 minutes and then fall asleep for another 5 and so on. In the end though the Puckers had enough in them to pull out the victory. Mike Celauro had 2 goals in this one and Pete Bugni had 2 saves.
Game 2: Suns 5 Puckers 1
Summary: The Pucker came out firing in the first period but some superb goaltending by the Sun's goalie kept this game at 1-0 at the end of the first period. After that it was all Suns basically as they went on to score 5 unanswered goals. Their D also held down the Puckers O and shut down their whole game. Mikey Basile filled in amazingly for the absent Pete, making an especially brilliant save on a breakaway from Chris Mindel.
Game 3: Sweepers 11 Puckers 4
Summary: This one wasn't pretty as the Sweepers quickly jetted out to a 4-0 lead. The MP's showed some resiliency by scoring the next 2 goals but the Puckers just couldn't hang in there against the Sweepers. Tim DiGanci led the way in this one with 3 assists and Dan Heinze chipped in 2 goals also.Game 4: Puckers 4 Titans 2
Summary: For 2 and a half periods this game looked like it would be the same old for the MP's. They just couldn't get anything going and they had just been shutout on a 4 on 2 powerplay. Everything changed though as Dave Celauro blasted in his second goal of the game to tie the score up. Right after that Joe Gornicz gave the Puckers the lead for good with a sizzling shot. Dave Celauro led the team in this one with his 2 goals.Game 5: Puckers 8 Devils 5
Summary: It's always fun to play Jerry and whatever team he is on and this game was no exception. The Puckers jumped out to a early lead in this game and then just played with enough intesity to keep them ahead just enough. The big story of the game was Shobhan "The Indian Asassin" scored his first in a couple seasons justifying his call up from the minor leagues. Mikey Basile also chipped in goal and as you can tell this was just a weird game.
Game 6: Puckers 5 Old Dirty Men 1
Summary: The Puckers decided that they were good enough to beat these guys with only half their team there as only 5 guys showed up for this one. Tim DiGanci stepped up though and scored 3 goals to pick up his first hattrick of the season.Game 7: Tequila 5 Puckers 4 OT
Summary: The Puckers started the game on fire as they managed to build up a 3-1 lead going into the 3rd period. As we know by now though no lead is safe with the Suns around as they managed to rally and take a 4-3 lead with a couple minutes left in the 3rd period. Dan Heinze and Tim DiGanci showed off their playmaking skills as they notted the score up at 4 to force the game into OT. With about half the OT gone Tequila managed to score the game winner and send the Puckers home with a loss. Dan Heinze led the way in this one with 2 goals.Game 8: Puckers 4 Sweepers 3
Summary: The MP's managed to take advantage of a depleted Sweepers bench and backup goaltender but it wasn't easy. The Pucker jumped out to a 2 goal lead a couple of times but each time the Sweepers battled back to cut it back down to 1. With the Puckers clinging to a 3-2 lead, Joe Gornicz accidently high sticked one of the Sweepers which resulted in a 5 minute power play for them. The Pucker stood strong though and not only killed it off but also managed to score another goal which proved to be the game winner as the Sweepers could not overcome the 2 goal deficit. Dan Heinze had the hattrick in this one to lead the Puckers.Game 9: Puckers 2 Titans 1
Summary: This one was a defensive struggle as both teams were short on men. The Titans struck first midway through the second period as Pete could not stop the partial breakaway and the Puckers found themselves in a 1-0 hole. It stayed that way until Joe Gornicz decided to take over in the 3rd period as he scored 2 goals in the span of 2 minutes to jumpstart the Puckers into the lead. From there the defense and Pete took over as the Titans were shut down and the MP's had a 2-1 victory.Game 10: Puckers 8 Devils 2
Summary: This game is usually a mismatch when the Devils have all their people there but when their missing half their team, they stand no chance. The Puckers jumped out a early lead in this one and never looked back as they coasted to an easy victory in what turned out to be a playoff warmup. Tim DiGanci and Eric Duchin each had a hattrick in this one to help secure the victory.
Round 1: Puckers 7 Devils 1
Summary: The Puckers started this one real slow as they just could not seem to get going. It might have been the conservative style the Devils were playing under the influence of team captain Jerry or maybe they just couldn't muster any offense up. The Puckers finally started clicking though and took this game over as Eric Duchin knocked in 4 goals to turn this one into a blowout.Round 2: Sweepers 8 Puckers 7 OT
Summary: The Puckers got off on the right foot in this one as Shob knocked in his first goal of the playoffs to get the Puckers on the board. The Sweepers then answered with 2 goals of their own to take a 2-1 lead. In the second though, the Puckers came roaring back to score 5 goals and take a 6-2 to the third period. The Sweepers came roaring back though and at the end of the third period the score was all tied up at 7. Overtime wasn't kind to the Puckers as halfway through it the Sweepers got the game winning goal and sent the Puckers home packing.
