God Bless America!
September 11, 2001, and what followed, took me back to my childhood in the '40s. I'd like to share memories of that time with those of you who remember and those of you who are too young to remember.
WWII was a time to patriotism, such as has not been seen until after the 911 bombing. People banned together to help the war effort, by saving tin foil, rationing, and many other things that they opted to do to help their Country.
The tin foil saving is especially in my mind, today, because kids would peel the foil off their gum wrappers and candy bar wrappers, provided you could get them.
Every Monday, I would take a quarter to school, to make a payment on my war bond.
Oh, and when I was five or six, we would Pledge Allegence, but our hands were not over our heart, as is protocol now, but extended towards our Flag.
As I remember things, I will put them up here. If it's too boring, let me know and I'll try to do a better job of imparting my memories.
