Moringa: The tree of paradise, the never-die tree
An Amazing Story…
Severely underweight and undernourished, a teenage girl arrives at a remote hospital near her village seeking assistance in delivering her first child. Although her baby is not considered premature, its birth weight is less than three pounds. To make matters worse, the young mother is unable to provide enough milk to support her infant. Despite their concerns that the baby and the mother might die, the hospital staff cannot do much given the impoverished state of the area.
Before sending the ailing mother and newborn back to their village, a hospital worker instructs the mother to add a leaf powder from the Moringa tree to her meager diet and to the little milk she is able to produce for her baby.
Five months pass before the young mother returns to the hospital to visit the staff members and show off her baby. The hospital workers are amazed at the healthy condition of the mother and child. The baby weighs 11 pounds! The mother appears well-nourished and reports she is producing more than enough milk for her growing baby.
What happened? How could this be?
There were no prescribed medications and no significant changes in the mother’s diet, yet she did faithfully take the recommended dose of Moringa after leaving the hospital. The intelligent conclusion was that the addition of Moringa remarkably improved the mother’s health and most likely saved the baby’s life.
Why are there not more stories like this, or a greater knowledge of the benefits of this amazing natural product?
While some of the benefits of the Moringa plant have been tapped by various impoverished civilizations, the plant’s nutritional potential was not discovered by modern societies until the late nineteenth century. The indigenous knowledge and use of Moringa is referenced in more than 80 countries and known in over 200 local languages. Even with the known value of this plant, little has been done to introduce its amazing benefits to the world.
Until recently, only a smattering of research had been completed in India, its bordering countries, and in parts of Africa. Even less research had been done in the West. Then, not long ago, the University of Leicester in England performed a number of studies. The results from these studies along with the limited number of studies conducted in the United States confirm the benefits of the Moringa.
