Quebec Bulldogs
4/25/03 More Prospect Watches
Martin Sochorek - The largest center prospect in the Montreal farm system. At 6'4 he is a physical presance with an a high intensity level at 73 IT. Pretty impressive physical game for a 19 y.o. He lacks the skill though that make him a great player will have to develop for awhile till he is ready to play on the pro team.
Projected: Career Minor leaguer to 4th line center
Jamie Allen: Drafted in the third round, but has proven to play more like a 1st rounder. He developed quickly as an 18 y.o., but his peers have caught up to him, but still a highly toted prospect. Has the tools to be an offensive threat in the BDHLP and skilled passer. His showing at the WJC has really turned some heads and should become a regular in the line-up at 22.
Projected: Hard to say because of other players in the team, but has 1st line potential with a few more years of development.
Aleksei Savchenkov - Physical two-way player. Has very good puckhandling skills. Its like he keeps it on a string. Has been a solid player and is leading the farm team in points as of now. He plays much like his idol Jere Lehtinen.
Projected: 2nd or 3rd Liner
4/12/03 2006 Prospect Watch
Mika Nuutinen - Follow along the line of most new Canadiens prospects. A speedy foward with blinding speed. His 70 SP and 69 SK are something the Canadiens value. He also has another thing the Canadiens value and that is that he has some size too at 6'1 and 192 lbs. He isn't a polished scorer like those who came before him, but has raw skills that can be developed.
Projected: This guy has 1st or 2nd line potential and gives the Canadiens a second good left wing prospect.
Brandon Brown - An intense center who has a scoring touch. Has alot of credentials and could end up to be a pretty good player in the future years. He may take some more time to develop because he isn't a top notch prospect, but with rerates, he could be a very good player in a few years down the line.
Projected: Should be a strong 3rd line center.
Aleksei Selezov - People can criticize the young defensmen for being very poor in his own end, but the Canadiens are also reminded that two of its highly touted defensmen used to be the same way. He has potential to play like Lars Jonsson and Jan Soderstrom and defensmen like him tend to rerate well. He is has descent size and and can score and pass.
Projected: Will probably find his way to the PP someday, but will probably only be a third line defensmen.
Corey Martineau - This third round prospect has one very important rating going for him. His 65 DF is pretty impressive and reminds the team of John Madden who played excellent during his tenure with the Canadiens, but his other skills will need quite a bit of refining until he is ready to step up with the big boys.
Projected: A definite on the PK when his time comes and should be a regular on the 4th line.
3/29/03 Prospect Watch
Patrik Kverka - Has shown big in his second year in the Minors. 74 ov and keeps building upon good foundations. He has become a better scorer and still shows a good ability to pass. He sees the ice well and makes smart heads up plays. Very good discipline means he won't take to many penalties.
Projected position 1st or 2nd line center
Ladislav Novotny - When you look at this 19 y.o. you notice one thing, blinding speed. He was drafted in the third round and the Canadiens jumped at the chance to pick him up. His speed was defenitely what drawed us to him. We knew he struggled at passing and was rated a weak scorer, but we saw a ton of potential in the kid. He has scored well in the minors and this kid could become a Pavel Bure protege.
Projected: Its hard to say where he could end up, but with his speed he should find himself anywhere from the 1st line to the 3rd line
Ladislav Hlava - It must be something about the name Ladislav that makes you fast. This kid is extremely fast and him and Novotny might find thereselves playing in the pros. There speed should really open things up on offense. A problem with both players is there lack of size, but GM Brian Hoff has plans to pair these two with large left winger Juris Nadezmikovs. It should be a very good line once they mature. Hlava is a proven scoring threat and can pass that puck, a highly skilled player.
projected: Hard to say again, he faces the same deal as Kverka and Stajan, but this guy has 1st line potential written all over him.
3/25/03 Prospect Watch
Juris Nadezmikovs - 6'4" and 217 lbs. This guy is a monster and plays much like Oleg Kvasha of the Montreal Canadiens. Nadezmikovs(74 ov) is a very well rounded player who will be able to score. Has the tools to be one of the better power fowards in the BDHLP.
Projected: With Ribby, Berglund, and Kvasha around he may find himself playing 4th line for a bit, but is definetely a first line player.
Jan Soderstrom - Probably the best young defensemen the Canadiens have in their farm system. A smooth skater who can pass the puck and keep the other team from scoring while being an offensive threat himself. More than that he is a leader and will probably be a very valueble asset when he is in his prime.
projected position - great two way player could fine himself a first or 2nd line defensemen.
Matt Stajan - His passing skills have turned him into a potential 1st line center. With a 80 PA this kid can really see the ice and create plays. His speed has improved to a below average 65 SP, but has good skating skills along with an ability to get the puck in the net every once and awhile.
Projected: 2nd Line Center
